OK I did some reading and it turns out these are special permission bits:

The set user ID bit (s or S instead of user's x)

The set group ID bit (s or S instead of group's x)

The sticky bit (t or T instead of other's x)

Quote:

Here the output of "ls -l" for these bits is capitalized if execution bits hidden by these outputs are unset

I guess that sort of explain the capital T but I have no idea what unset means

Cant go wrong with linux. Been running Gentoo for a month today and its been the greatest pc experience ever besides finishing my first build. I almost never boot up windows unless im going to game. Ubuntu is a great place to start if u want to turn to the darkness

You can consider crunchbang too if you want something ubuntu based, but lightweight.

so i decided to go with mint 15 and downloaded the image so i can boot from cd just to give it a test run. my next step was to install along side win7 and slowly transfer all my files. never made it far though...

for some reason the cd will not boot...

What goes wrong?  What iso did you specifically burn?  Did you do a md5sum check?

Could also be an issue with the boot order, that can be changed by going into the BIOS settings by pressing a certain key right after the computer turns on (usually it will say which key onscreen.) The optical drive should be higher on the list than the hard drive. If other bootable CDs/DVDs work then it's probably a problem with that CD.
