Lam flow hood

I am getting ready to build a Lam flow hood. I have a fan and filter and was wondering about the details of the box itself. Do I need to have a certain depth to the lower box? I have a 36" x 24" filter and 1200cfm fan that has 3 speeds. Also can anyone tell me a good place to get a 3 speed switch for a 115volt 3 speed fan? Thanks for the input, any and all is appreciated!!!

Do you have a Cisco Electrical or any place as such? They'll have any kind of switch you need. Sorry i'm fixing to ask a really dumb question, the fan you speak of is nothing more than say an attic fan? Is that all you need to build this?

that's more what i was thinking, but that speed is pretty slow..no? I've got a huge blower for Fresh Air exchange right in the area i'll be at. It'll be taking air away, i could mod to that?

From what I understand 1200cfm is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to big. It does have 3 speeds though.
I am certainly no expert. I just made the one that I have and that is all.
But yeah that blower in the picture is probably too small. I just grabbed the first one I found.
I have a 24" by 24" inch front with a 12" deep filter.
I use a 60cfm blower.
Maybe a bit weak actually. But only a little.

i'm sorry for the dumb question...i guess not in that type of fan eh? Thanks
I see, I have a few Mighty Mini's setting around, they blow at 500CFM...that would work then? The one outside is huge..so probably not.
Thanks man

There is a formula, it's not tough but I can't explain it well so ask around you'll do better. So what I did is go to Fungi Perfecti and found fan filter combo and found them online myself. Mine is big so it needs a bigger fan. This was what I found... This high-power, multi-purpose blower is the perfect choice for pushing air through our 24x18, 24x24 and 24x36 inch HEPA filters. Dual-voltage power supply operates at either 115 or 230V. Delivers 1,040 CFM at .8" static pressure. Draws 4.8/2.5 amps @115V or 7.3/3.7 amps @ 230V. - See more at: http://www.fungi.com/product-detail/product/universal-blower-1040-cfm-8-sp.html#sthash.XPI2xvOo.dpuf. So with that info I went to ebay and stole one then called a filter supplier to order a Lam filter. Be sure to get one made for lam flow not just a hepa. I will need to dial in the flow but it should work. I'm not sure here but it sounds like your fan could be a bit low in cfm I would check on that. I'm no expert though so I could be wrong.

No no. You are right. It is low. But not by much.
I successfully work with culture nearly 4 days a week.
I do want a bigger blower though. Just been lazy/broke.

I hear ya I am now...lol. trying to start a second income down here and am trying to do the best I can to stay clean. Space cost so much here and it's to hot to any outside grows so I rented warehouse space. Lots of dust and such but so far the small test grows I have done seem to be doing ok. So I figure by adding the hood it will only help. I even hepa the air I pull in because I live in a tropical environment and who knows what is floating around.
