Pins and Fruits during rest period after first flush.
    #18879891 - 09/23/13 10:04 AM (10 years, 4 months ago)

I've been having difficulty finding out exactly how to handle my situation. My first flush crops are starting to get very large with the coir tek and RR's straw tek (no additives except gypsum from pellet form dissolved in water for the coir).

When I harvest a first flush, I see many knots and sometimes tiny pins starting to form still. Is this normal? Should these be part of flush #1? I always pick all the aborts and fruits I see, then I close off the light and FAE for 5 to 7 days. Most of the time when I come back, I have a full crop ready to be picked again. But any of these pins/knots, I tend to assume they are for the next flush.

The crop was very nice except they were a bit skinny due to lack of humidity and FAE, but why would a full crop continue to grow in the dark with no FAE and very low humidity?

Out of 2 blocks of coir, I just got one pound of fresh fruits on this second flush. I'm not disappointed, but I feel they could have been more bulky had they not grown during the rest period and waited for my proper fruiting conditions to start up again today.

Additional info, this is the PE strain, and the first flush was a muted blob flush. I picked all blobs, rested the tray for 7 days, and found my new crop ready for picking this morning.

Yea the remaining flushes come within a day or two of each other.  The knotts you are seeing are for the next flush.  There is no resting for cubes

I agree with Prince, furthermore IME my first flush will sometimes have a sort of second wave almost like a second flush. There is only a brief delay of less than 8 hours between the first mature fruits have been picked and the proliferation of the "second wave" of the first flush. I believe you are experiencing something similar and are putting your tub away before this "second wave" is allowed to mature. Next time allow your sub more time in fruiting conditions and let these grow in an ideal environment and I believe you will have better luck.

Better yet why would you stop fruiting conditions while your tub is fruiting? Where did you get the rest period idea?

Well that sounds good! After this "second wave" do you tend to just keep up with fruiting conditions or do you let your fungus rest?

I've read on hundreds of posts and documentation from this forum, paul, rr, and other experts that your fungus benefits from a resting period after each flush. This resting period can be a few days to upwards of a week.

That is plain and simply the only reason I ever do it. I hope my reading comprehension isn't that bad, and I wasn't completely wrong to try resting my fungus after a harvest. :P

I let it rest until I see new growth, then dunk and fruit second flush.

Thanks for all the responses. I guess I'll need to set these up so I can monitor them better when resting, and stop resting before that second wave. Because you're right, it does seem to come on very quick.

No worries, my phrasing is certainly not scientifically correct but I think you picked up what I was trying to put down. Good luck man, oh and btw I use these so I can keep an eye on whats happening....
