In other words you don't.  You rather just assume your judgment is foolproof. :satansmoking:

Many Germans thought Hitler was doing 'good'. And I'm quite sure, he thought that for himself.
A dark chapter of human history.
Many would take that route, I guess, if one would let them...

All bad is done, because the doers think it's good. There is no exception.

All the chapters of human history seem dark to me.  I can't tell the good guys from the bad guys.

They all seem dark because we just repeat the same one over and over.  I mean it only takes a cursory glance at writings from tacitus and pliny to see their worries about the same corruption in Rome that we fear today.  Ancient greece, medieval states, earlier, later, it's all there.

It only takes a few generations for us to completely forget the past.  How many people know ANYTHING about their great great grandpa?  Great grandfather?  Hell I know people who are oblivious about their grandparents or fathers.  It's generational amnesia, and "history" is now seen more like an esoteric story book than a teacher.

i tend to agree. bad boy for life!:rockon:

BUT I dont see all of human history as dark. To me it only takes a little bit of light to illuminate a whole lot of darkness. You know things like wars happen, that doesn't mean humanity is fundamentally wrong. So many good things have happened also.

I see the differentiation of bad and good guys in the now. No 'good' long term goal in the future can justify any 'bad' deeds in the now

clock: yes, it's all methodology to make us forget. So those in power can stay that, this way.

Bingo!  I've been stating this to mostly deft ears here for some years now.

its not that history hasn't been largely a story of doom and gloom. that's all part of its charm. but i don't see it as a 'bad story' i think the ending is entirely up in the air still.

or you could take the total philosophical role and those words have no meaning.

According to Nietzsche, no point of view can comprehend absolute truth: there are only different perspectives from which one can see a matter.

Possible but more likely simple extinction.
