B+ alomst fully colonized jars...
    #18878166 - 09/22/13 09:53 PM (10 years, 5 months ago)

Hey guys, just curious what you guys think about these jars. I inoculated some B+ jars about 17 days ago. They are very close to being fully colonized on the outside. I have been incubating them in a TiT at about 82 degrees. I don't see any signs of contamination, from what i Know it looks completely healthy. The moisture droplets on the inside of the jar concerned me at first but after searching this board it seems as though this is fairly common? Most of my jars look like the ones in the pictures. Should I take them out of the incubator and sit at room temp for the next 5-7 days and then birth and dunk? Let me know what you guys think, I am really excited to do some autumn camping with these guys  cheers!

and i'm no pro, but i think the optimal temp in an incubator is 80. not that 2 degrees makes that much of a difference,  but it's also better for contaminants to take over in the beginning.

Looks awesome. I would definitely remove them from the incubator, unless you live in the artic. They will be fine in normal room temperatures, and they will also make their own heat. I would give them 10 days from your picture to let them consolidate. The one does not look like it is finished colonizing that jar yet, probably 3 days on it. I have noticed with Jars, if you dunk and roll right after the colonization time the cakes take up more water and have better fruits. If you dunk early they will not take up as much water and I still end up waiting for them to finish the consolidation while they are in the FC. I say it is always better to wait and let them consolidate in the jars. They will let you know when they are ready to be birthed.

Thanks for the advice, I will take them out of the incubator and let them sit for about a week at room temp. Is there any special way to know when they are done consolidating the inside? Or is it just something you perceive from experience?

The consolidation period is not so the mycelium can colonize the middle. If the outside and bottom are completely colonized then the middle is as well. The one week consolidation period is so that the mycelium can consume/digest the very nutritious brf. Give your jars 1 full week after the outside is completely colonized for best results

You can also try the heat shock like LM does, he got some insane flushes .

This actually caught my eye a few days ago, sounds very interesting. I don't know if I will use it this time, but would sure like to try a few different techniques including the heat shock when I inoculate a lot more jars.

Once again you caught me Psilly!

This is why you should not drink and post. Psilly is absolutely right and I am sorry I typed colonize instead of consolidate. We have had debates about this in the past, and I was wrong. I just threw out a jar that showed no signs of myc growth, and when I tried to get it out of the jar into my out door patch, the inside was completely colonized. It would not break apart, it was as if these myc cultures were laughing at me and saying.... "You should have listened to psillyshroomer."

Once again, Psillyshroomer is the man! Thanks for clearing that up for me bud.
