What are your favorite D&D modules?

I've been reading through the "Illithiad" which is the first module adventure I became aware of. And I really like that it does a lot of the work of putting together a coherent story and characters while allowing you a lot of creative control.
So are there any favorites of yours? Any that are particularly well crafted? because some parts of this one are iffy. And if theres any 3.5 e ones, thats what I'd prefer.
But if older modules are superior in craft, I can adjust the stats to 3.5 myself.

Man, and I thought "choose your own adventure"-series books were clever. I was such a 5th grader in 5th grade

are you talking campaigns that are pre set? whenever the group I play with gets together the dm usually had thought a whole thing off the top of his or her head and used the monster manual.
although I did get a chance to look through a few not that long ago and there was one that had to do with werewolves and it seemed pretty decent.

Yeah, that's one way to do it. I'd basically be doing it half that way and half with the pre set adventures. Adding monsters I thought felt appropriate, because it felt like there were a lot of missed opportunities in some parts.
So thats where I come in.

I havent played dnd since I was a kid but I am really considering getting back into it. I realize now what an amazing game it is and how great it is for the mind and brain.
I found a big box of dragon magazines in the back lane and am getting excited about it.
What is the newest edition? I need to buy the books, then get my wife and best friend to play with me.
Do you guys think you can run a good campaign with just two players and a DM?

Well, the newest edition is 4. But everybody I play with says 4 is way dumbed down, so we all play 3.5 for more creative control.
Me and my brother play 1 on 1 when we're bored on the weekends. I DM when his character is doing skill checks or talking to someone, and run most battles, and he DM's my skill checks and role playing stuff.
It works pretty darn well. Sometimes it's funner than playing with 4 people, because sometimes others are wayyy toooo slowww.

I think a dumbed down, simple game would be best for us to start with. Ill probably get 4.
Im excited.
Maybe ill start designing a campaign now.

If I am the DM can I also run a character or does that not really work?
Or should I like control an NPC character in the game?

one time when I played with a large group it took as like an hour and a half just to get everything we wanted in a city.

When I'm with groups of four PC's, I'll just have a character who's not around a whole lot, or is always off doing other shit like making money, or building a house and planting crops for the characters.
And occasionally showing up to help with stuff
