What if you suspend a pf cake in the fruiting chamber? fruit on the bottom?

I am wondering if you have seen anybody put pf cakes on a metal rack in the fruiting chamber to get fruits on the bottom or somehow suspend it on a stick or string. I don't think it would improve the flush's yield much, I just think it sounds like a cool idea. Does anyone have input or advice? I would love to see some pictures or at least read a grow log. I am a first time grower. Though I probably wouldn't try it this time as I haven't grown any fruits yet(only a few weeks away!) and don't want to mess it up.

I've though about this too(elevated rack), benefits would be an extra fruiting surface on the cake, more perlite area on your FC since cakes are not resting on it, the cons I think would be it could get messy when harvesting since fruit bodies could potentially get entangled with the rack and cake could get damaged, prbly someone has done it before, a link would be nice

Fungi are negatively gravitropic and most are positively phototrophic this means the fruiting bodies grow against gravity and towards light. Keep this in mind.

But was the drying out a real big problem? How big were the flushes compared to other grows?

Yeah but i feel like with proper fae and evaporation it would still fruit but grow more parallel to the cake. Cakes fruit on the sides all the time so why not upside down?

Fruits forming on the bottom is fairly common even without hanging the cake. Yield does not depend on surface area. However a larger surface area can cause more moisture loss from the substrate

Not a clue bro, that was my first sorry, i have nothing to compare. But it makes a lot of since if you think about it. You're adding more surface area for evaporation, causing pinning, and everything else is pulling all the water as well.
Sorry i don't have all the terminology as you can see. You'd have to mist a whole hell of a lot i would think, or they may all take off and a quick flush, then on to the next. I don't know...again sorry. My side and the first inch of the bottom were sick, but this may of taken away from the top as well.
its alright. how long ago was this? are you going to grow more?

It was some decades back, Some of my tubs were like my garden, slow and steady. i'm fixing to order a bunch of medicinal's and go again. This time i've filled my head w/ what a few of the TC's are doing/have done within the last few years if not year.
I'm so addicted to my garden and this i can do w/ so much more ease...as my body is a bit mangled and i don't get around well. Fun and exciting hobby for sure!
Much love

Keep the cakes as close to the perlite as possible, this ensures your cakes are kept at the proper humidity.
Use a baking rack or something similar so you get FAE on all sides of the cake. If they want to grow on the bottom, they will. Regardless of anything in the way

Definitely brother, i had started reading a few months back, then created my acount...and maaaan was i full of old shit and had read a bunch more old shit.
It's all going to work out so much better w/ all the help from these wonderful people. As i was doing everything i had only what a friend told me as i jotted down...it was fun, but as everything played out i had so many more questions. There was quite a bit to experiment with and it was all so amazing. That's why i've been reading more and more... figuring out what was actually going on and wanting to try this or that... I'm fixing to dive into agar, that sounds so amazing.
Much Love

OP- Im just throwing this out there, but you could get some 1/4 dowel rods and place in the middle of your PF before you PC. Then once they are fully colonized the Myc should hold everything on to the dowel rod and you would have a little hanging basket cake.
As to if it is a good idea, or bad who knows. I would say that these guys are probably right, and it would dry out faster and have more aborts. But that being said, this website is all about experimenting and trying new things as long as it is not a grow that you are relying on to succeed.

Greater surface area will result in a number of more fruits but less flushes. It really all equals out in the end.

Since when does surface area have to do with number of flushes?
The mycelium utilizes moisture and nutrients from the entire substrate, regardless of the side(s) that are exposed.

The more fruits produced tend to deplete a substrate of moisture and nutrients faster. While you can reintroduce moisture, not so with nutrients.
Give fruiting blocks a run in your GH and tell me you don't come back with the same results and end up with a shared opinion. Myc will become unhealthy after 1-2 flushes instead of dying off on the 3rd or 4th flush.
But the overall harvest weight is generally the same over the life of the myc.

I have, and I do not share your opinion.
Drying out on all sides does what you are describing, it gets "unhealthy" but it has nothing to do with the nutrients. It is because it is drying out too quickly, on all sides. This will certainly affect the health and lifespan of the substrate...as well as producing small fruits, sometimes in abundance.
