Hello,
I found this growing in my backyard after my dog took a bite out of it. Is it dangerous or poisonous? I tried searching online but the closest thing I could find to it was a gypsy mushroom (rozites caperata) The cap is just dirty thats not the actual color.

Any help is appreciated.

oh shit dude. I'm not sure what you should do.
I dunno if people can even tell which mushrooms are poisonous to dogs, or if poison can transcend species.
hopefully someone knows. maybe an emergency vet visit if he worsens.

A better picture of the fungus will help.
Looks like it could be a type of Russula

I work in the veterinary field and I'm some what of the mushroom expert for several clinics in the area. The stem is very Russula like so I don't think you will have any issue. There are really no really toxic Russula. I imagine the stem is some what chalk like and the mushrom crumbles relatively easy. The amount ingested looks like a small amount. If you came into my clinic with this I'd send you home with no charge. see ya

is there a pattern or scaling on the cap other than the dirt? is the cap more brown? or yellow? it kind of looks like an amanita of sorts. i could be mistaken though.

Russula subnigricans you also dont have to die from a mushroom for it to be toxic.
Although many people claim to eat russula they often prepare the mushrooms in a different way that makes almost any mushroom edible
"All of the Russulas and Boletes we gather get washed, boiled for 10 min., rinsed with cold water, then added to soup(boiled again). Possible reasons no one has gotten sick: We mix them with other edibles species, so we don't eat them in large quantities by any means. Maybe the excessive cooking degrades the toxins?
Even though we have had no problems with them, we'll be avoiding them from now on, they are just too many other good edibles out there."
i know many people who get sick from Russula emetica also.

Russula Emetica in the USA. I belive that, that species has been determined to only be a European one. Ask Tom Volk. Basicall I said that there where no known Really toxic Russula in the USA. I deal with mushroom eating dogs quit frequently. I have never been concerned with any of the Russlas that have been brought to me when the owner thought there pet has eaten it. I try and keep up with reports on mushroom toxisty cases in humans and in animals and everthing I have herd about Russla in that regard have been Anti dotal. No actual cases documented. Russula subnigricans is a pretty foul smelling mushroom and they are very disgusting tasting having tasted it before. Hard to imagine anyone eating that one let a lone a dog. But Cooked long enough anything is edible. I personaly eat several species of Russula encluding several of the red ones that are hot . The acidity goes away after a simpley sautaying them.

Ahh the USA, what it is, is that i hate generalizing, or simplifying. Generalizing about the edibility, especially when we no so little about mushrooms is not good, it can lead to bad things....
I will have to eat russula more often i guess.
