You can substitute this for an oster blender with the blade attached to a small mouth mason jar. Use the regular metal jar ring instead of the plastic oster base, as it will melt in the PC.
I have it, but I didn't see the part where he uses the stainless steel blenders 24/7 on a culture.
I'm rotating my karo cultures on my stir plate now. I only have one stir plate :/

It's usually malt extract solution with a little 'worm' of more solid myc in it. Maybe they don't use all of the additives recomended in ggmm, or perhaps there's a sterile filter.
1.5g LME/liter of H2O. 2 days is not enough. Go longer and observe daily.

Doesn't hurt anything. Stir continuously.
So I put my starter culture of King oyster on the stir plate yesterday afternoon, and I just went to check on it, and there's no more fluffy mycelium, it's all condensed and dark in color. Does the liquid culture have to be mature to be on the stir plate continuously? Because this all looks fried.

Mature? If you'll notice in GGMM Pg. 138 Stamets goes from chopping in the Eberbach directly into the Erlenmeyer and on a stir plate. Sounds like a possible contamination. Dark? As in milky-brown, dark brown, black? Any pictures?
Put a few drops on petri and see what develops.

Well it was about a half inch thick with fluffy white mycelium, now its 2mm of brownish condensed mycelium. Hard to tell exact color since my LC has coffee in it
It's not likely contaminated, so I'll just wait to see what transpires in the next few days with the stirplate off.

Is there a minimum mass of mycelium that should be transfered to the liquid media or can I conceivably start with one cell?
