Trekking GPS
    #18876687 - 09/22/13 04:27 PM (10 years, 4 months ago)

I need to get a GPS for outdoor off the grid travel.  I'm trying to find something both reliable and something that I can load in USGS maps into without having to shell out mad bills for maps that are otherwise free.  Anyone used one of these things that can give me some guidance?

You can cache maps for offline use...

What are you on? Android or iOS? Also do you have the "new" update? The new one has like no menus, just a little tab thing on the side.

Anything Garmin, extra batteries and a solar charger are also a good idea. A friends Garmin came in real handy when we discovered we were on the wrong side of Dave's Gulch
(yea that place)& had to reroute the rest of our backpacking trip. Things are scary accurate if you use Cartesian coordinates and a good topo map instead of the built in map.
