Cloning tissue to agar: Okay to wait 12 hours after harvesting fruit?

I've used the search function to try and find an answer. Most of the people who asked similar questions were looking to store a mushroom for days or longer before cloning. I just want to know if it's alright to wait 12 hours after harvesting before I clone. Perhaps I could refrigerate the mushroom overnight? I don't have the option to wait longer for harvesting because I can only access fruiting tub at night and only access SAB in morning(bringing SAB where tub is fruiting is also not an option)

worse case and you would just have to do a couple extra transfers in order to clean the culture up. just want to catch it in time so that the myc is still alive

Your mushrooms won't dehydrate in twelve hours by themselves.

They lose +/- 20% of water within that time if on newspaper.

Put it in a ziplock bag and stick it in the fridge. It'll be good for days.
I've done it a million times like this.
Ok, not literally "a million" times...but you know what I mean

I'm saying depending on where you place 'em it could really change how much water stays or goes.
But ya refrigerator dude.

Thanks for the responses everyone. I'm gonna go with the ziplock in the fridge. Wish me luck in my first agar experiment

Thanks frank. I read your cloning tek a few times but I have one question about it.. Do you clean your gloves somehow in between touching the mushroom and touching your scalpel/Petri dish? I'm a little worried about transferring contams into my dish after holding the mushroom with both hands

No, I do it exactly as I describe.
Don't directly touch the inside of the stipe where you are taking tissue from. Handle it carefully.

You shouldn't be touching the sample you're putting on a plate with anything but clean tools. Touching one end of a scalpel or the top of a petri dish to open it will not spread contaminants.
