I just called a local nature preserve ten miles from my house (link below) and asked him if they allow the hunting of edible mushrooms. The person on the phone (man) said no! like he was offended and assuming I was hunting for the "Magic" kinds. I said aw and goodbye. Check this site out. Its horrible IMO I thought this before I ever called in mind you. The music on the slideshow sounds to me like music from a funeral wake. Also the slideshow is the biggest source of information on the site and it plays automatically thus pushing crappy internet planned users away.
http://www.bcbgarden.org/
I sent him an email (privately owned) this is what it said: You should consider allowing people to mushroom hunt on your trails. Not every person who looks for mushrooms are looking for the magic kind which is often presumed.
Your site needs some work. As a designer I notice you don't have any links other then the basic needs. A comments page would be a nice thing you can MONITOR (delete unwanted posts) and the users comments can attract new customers. This shows others experiences with your park and often a person seeking the same experience will side with them and get enthusiastic about visiting. A few more links to about the history of the park would be nice. I see you have a slideshow which is a great start. I would recommend setting it so it doesn't start automatically. A lot of users have crappy internet connections or data plans and this will push them away from the site. Also the music no offense but sounds more to me like wake music from a funerals calling hours more so then coming off gardeny if you know what I mean. Keep up the good work and I'm glad to see you have such a beautiful place. Just try to think of how you can make it better from a digital point of view.
I am not selling my services or requesting them. I just called and was a little unsettled by the fact that you don't allow mushroom hunters and figured I would be honest and give my first impressions so you can note for future situations. I hunt for edible Chicken of the woods, hen of the woods, rooster of the woods and giant puffballs. I know latin names and am a member of a mushroom Identification website. No harm is done to the trees or surroundings. most mushroom hunters are very nature respecting individuals. Some mushrooms such as the honey mushroom are a danger or blessing given the consideration that they cause root rot in trees which will kill them eventually. The largest known living organism in the world is in Oregon. The honey mushroom mycelium has reached epic proportions! Allowing respectable mushroom hunters look for Morels will boost spring activity too! Hope this isn't taken the wrong way. I'm just an enthusiast and wanted to state my opinion. Good luck!

Some would say my first mistake was asking in the first place. Thats just how I am. Im just going to go hunt around here. Theres more forest then I can handle anyway. I still find new places to hunt right in a 5 mile radius I will find a new place and get a jolt of energy and happiness. Then I have fun looking at all the neat fungi! Or at nothing doesnt matter I'm just glad to get out of the house and do something productive other then sit here depressed all day!

Many of these places have a bad taste in their mouths from rude motherfuckers with NO respect. I have been a camp host/park host in many places including oregon, cali,nc, ect. For blm, county, state and dnr. And I can assure you of this. It has made many parks afraid of the damage they cause. It is actually HARD to find folks who visit public land who respect it. One of the major reasons that I hang(lurk?) here (besides knowledge levels) is the amount of respect most of the members seem to have for the outdoors. It takes work to get these managers over their fears. Get to know them, donate some time there, and you will find the attitudes change.

Okay, gotta be 1992. I've checked the whole thread and I don't see that yet.
Yikes, looks like while I was doing my research I got skunked.
1994
-------------------- "Shrub, 30-90 cm. Leaves 2.5-) 4-9 cm, sessile or amplexicaul, broadly ovate to ovate-oblong, obtuse or rounded to subapiculate or subacute, when crushed not smelling of goats." "The initial quake was a 6.6 but fairly shallow. I felt it as a prolonged up and down vibration followed by a jolt forward and then to the left, like square dancing."

Yup Yup. Been wildcrafting for most my life. Edibles mostly. Used to grow actives back in the day (cubensis). Just moved to WA to start a mushie farm, bought 5 acres in a rain forest to start with. Exited to do some active hunting this year....no luck yet.

I have always wanted to hunt in WA. I bet there are plenty of deep woods areas that would be awesome to explore.
