Getting a Cat in an apartment where your not aloud to have cats. 1

So my friend wants to give up a pure bread Siamese cat . This thing is fricken adorable . I'm not aloud to have cats in my place so that is certainly the suck .
My land lord is like late 50's dieing of cancer . He hasn't popped by in 3 months and doesnt deposit my rent check for like weeks at a time . I think because he has a hard enough time going to the mailbox with his radiation treatment and what not .
Do you think I could pull off having a cat in a small place ?
What are the worst case scenario's ? Eviction ?

I had a dog in a similar situation. I imagine a cat would be easier to hide.
If he finds out you'll probably at least be fined.

Just ask your landlord if you can have this one small pet. If he/she is having a rough time health wise then a pet in an apt would be the least of his worries. If they do in fact so no then try to negotiate some terms like you paying an additional $25 a month in rent. And if they still say no then sneak the cat in no one would probly ever know unless the cat meows really loud. But yea worst case scenario is that you get evicted

Where I live lease clauses against pet ownership are illegal, unless there is an allergic resident living in the same building. It's possible this is true where you live as well.

Have any problems at all with your neighbors? They're the ones you have to worry about, because if you do and any of them see the cat you can bet your ass the first thing they're going to do is go telling the landlord.

That might not matter if the landlord has drawn up a lease which includes illegal clauses. Would be worth checking the tenancy laws in your area.

The worst case scenario, realistically, is that you get the cat but dont have a backup plan for kitty to go if hes being evicted.
ONLY get that cat when you have the landlords permission OR you have a backup home for the cat to go to. Too many cats end up gassed in the shelter from having been gotten on a whim.
Only get the cat when you can provide a stable home.

backup like wiccan said... but honestly if he's an indoor cat youre going to have zero problem. Just make sure to clean his litter frequently so it doesn't smell like cat poo and hide him when maintenance comes.

Ya my best friend lives 8 houses down I can always leave the cat there for short term , Possibly even indefinitely . The only thing I'd be worried about is the neighbors hearing / seeing her . Its pretty tight quarters but sound insulation really isnt a problem. Concrete / brick walls and shit . Only weak spot is the door . But you can hear when someone is in the hallway ....so if cat is meowing I bet they'd hear it .
I suppose if it is illegal for them to write the lease that way then I'd be ok with it .
Or just get the land lords permission .
Getting evicted is not worth it :P

Highly doubt you'd get evicted.. Just a fine and told to get rid of the animal. Especially if you're a good tenant that pays on time. Landlords love good tenants. My grandma used to own rental property, and she'd go out of her way to keep a good tenant rather than evict and have to try and find a new one.

Say you have a medical condition and a pet would aleve the suffering. Or see if you can put down a $500 deposit, assuming you can afford it. Then there would be no reason he wouldn't allow it.

I had an ex girlfriend who used the "therapeutic animal" excuse. You might look into that. It is my understanding that in many places, if you claim an animal to be a service animal, it is illegal for anyone to force you to prove it. Something about the "Americans with disabilities act" I think.

I would say don't get the cat with out permission. It will be in a new place, so it might try and bolt out the front door. Siamese cat's in my experience are loud as fuck. If you do get busted then the cat has to go through the stress of being re-homed again.

Yeah just be upfront and ask your landlord. Or try to sneak it. Either way just be comfortable with the fact you and your cat might get evicted, unlikely but who knows.

That's really fucking douchey, some people like to get apartments with no cats allowed because they're alergic. I hope you not only lose youre security deposit, but I hope you also have to pay for the apartment to be cleaned.

You have to make sure of other things than just cleaning his cat box. Cats scratch at things, my male will scratch the door frames so ya gotta be prepared to fix that and even if cats are fixed they can still piss on shit /carpet /walls
Be prepared.

My girlfriend is a professional animal trainer . She has trained cats to use the toilet in the past . I have all hard wood / tile in my apartment and I'm more then prepared to do the proper research / fixing needed to retain any deposit I put down .
On top of all that , this is pure assumption but I think saimese are hypo-allergenic by breed .
