Extreme dieting
    #18874456 - 09/22/13 12:43 AM (10 years, 5 months ago)

Reading Steve Jobs biography and in it the author talks about how Jobs would go on ridiculous diets.
One example is an all apple diet.

Ive tweaked my diet over the years and have always pondered trying an extreme diet like this.

If I were to do this, I assume I shouldn't be too physically exhaustive with my workouts?
Instead of long runs I should incorporate walks?

I want to do this as a conscious experiment.
I want to see how this type of diet will alter my meditation practice and my creative pursuits.

I probably won't do straight apples...But primarily broccoli and some type of fruit.

Anyone try anything like this or have an opinion on this?

Welcome to the world of eating disorders.  If you're gonna do it, you may as well only eat healthy fats such as avocado, coconut oil, and organic grassfed butter.  That way you'll be getting calories that will fuel your brain and vital organs (make sure you get enough or your body will go into starvation mode).  Are you aware of all the irreversible damage and diseases you are subjecting yourself to if you go this route?  Your health will suffer dramatically and there's a good chance it will be permanent if you go through with this.  I strongly suggest you only do t for a day or two if you are dead set on trying it.

Well ive considered trying this for a few days, I don't see this becoming a disorder, moreso an experiment with myself.

Ive also considered a fast for 24 hours..That's not overtly unhealthy is it not?

But realistically over an extended period I will also have healthy fats in the mix..Peanut butter on rice cakes/peanuts/almonds.

I cant help but think a fruit/veggie fast can be beneficial in detoxing the body...Then after a day or three incorporate the nuts again.

Keep the comments rolling please.

Fad diet episodes skew your metabolism the wrong way for the longterm, causing you to pack on pounds more readily for many months after a one week stint.

Fad/crash dieting is VERY bad for you. It teaches your body to retain as much fat as it can because food conditions are severe.

Those are absolutely not healthy fats. I'm too lazy to provide an explanation right now though.

Yes they are, you aren't too lazy, you just couldn't possibly give an explanation

Guys this isn't a lifestyle change.
Its moreso a "shock" to my body/mind.

I wouldn't do it over extended periods of time.
Maybe a day or two every couple weeks, month.

Is this idea really that unhealthy?

In my opinion t all depends on your daily amount of work: the more you need to "function", the more you should eat. If you run a quiet life you shouldnt need to eat that much, while if you work 8 hours a day lifting weights and so on you shall. Gandhi used to make long dietings period, more like abstinence from eating that dieting actually. I think that it can be great if you're motivated enough, but I wouldn't start it drastically: better to reduce day by day. And I'd avoid workouts at all, increasing meditation if needed. Or maybe limiting it to walks, best medication existing according to a musical group I love. I don't do neither meditation or workouts, I just try to keep my self in shape because of hard work in extreme hot conditions, I love to read and keeping myself busy with odd and stupid projects

Make sure you eat nuts. You need the nutrients in meat and nuts are a good source of some of those nutrients.

In all honesty, I think exercise is where it's at.

You can't just exercise though, you have to be having fun. Once you find an outside activity that both works out your body AND that you enjoy every second of, you're in the clear.

For me, dieting would consist of avoiding processed foods. You need food for a reason, you need all the good little chemicals in there that fuel your body.

Basically, if you exercise, your body will utilize all these chemicals and release endorphins that make you feel good about yourself, your body, and your life.

In conclusion, whether you're dieting for weight loss, or just to help out your body function better, EXERCISE is 10x better for you. FUN exercise, not WORK exercise. Lifting weights, and walking/running around in a circle isn't fun. When you have fun, you end up doing 2x more exercise while not feeling the stress of putting your brain on autopilot so you can walk around a circle or lift a metal bar for an hour.

ALSO, using your body for fun things makes you acquire skill . A good example of this is parkour, those people have fun, exercise, and acquire skill all at the same time.

I personally skateboard. I have fun, do tricks, and exercise all at the same time. And I feel amazing afterwords. I love the feeling of getting my blood pumping while there's loads of endorphins in my blood. Once I get into that mode, I feel like I could do it forever. Instead of feeling like I need to stop and go inside, I just feel like I need to take a breath and sip at my bottle of water while just watching stuff outside happen peacefully.

I tried the GM diet for a week (key word TRIED) the first day you eat nothing but fruit, second day nothing but veggies. third day fruit and veggies and then the other days were this weird onion soup and melons and some other crap.

i made it to day 3 and just couldn't do it anymore. i was miserable. I'd rather just stick to what i do/eat already and just exercise.

I have fasted for 2-3 days at a time, but that was because I was dirt poor.
Every once in a while I go an entire day without eating, more because I'm too busy working and just don't even think about food.
I try to eat a normal healthy diet whenever possible. I don't really notice any major benefits to fasting, intentionally or unintentionally.

Fad diets never really work. They don't accomplish anything.
Eat a normal, healthy, balanced diet consistently for the best results.

If you want to "cleanse" your body then there is many types of temporary "cleanse" diets you can do. Things that are loaded with fiber, and vitamins... superfoods.
But don't torture your body and deny it of the vitamins and minerals it NEEDS just because.
That will only cause more problems

Dieting is bullshit. If you want to be more healthy... choose healthier foods to eat, and exercise more
Avoid processed garbage. Eat more WHOLE grains, FRESH fruits and vegetables, etc.. We all know what's good for us.

That is my opinion. Fad Diets are fucking retarded. Eat a balanced, healthy diet to begin with.
If you eat junk all the time, then eating healthy WILL be a shock to your system
