Hey all! This is my first real grow. I did a "foolproof" kit many years ago. Wish I knew then what I do now. I have a couple projects going on concurrently. This is almost my first post on a forum ever!!! I love this site!
Project #1: First, made some BRF cakes w/ gypsum in half pint crystal jelly wide mouthed jars with some Golden Teacher MS syringes on 8/30. Four cakes are 100% colonized and have been consolidating for a week today. The other six cakes have stalled at ~90% or so. Not sure why. All of the stalled ones are just uncolonized on the bottom but have not changed in a week or more.

Possibly too wet? In the last couple of days they kind of look like they are sweating. I'm assuming this is normal?

Also, around 5-7 days after knocking them up noticed some red spots. Looked into it and it does seem like rust. It hasn't spread or anything. There's a couple of jars that have this, usually under where the inoculation holes are. I'm guessing some metal scraps from drilling the lids entered the jar.

Tomorrow or later today after I wake up, I'll be dunking them for 24hrs. For the cakes that have stalled, I'll be scraping/rubbing the uncolonized portions off as much as I can before dunking/rolling. Their new home will be a standard SGFC with ~5 inches of perlite in a 66 quart clear container (26.5 x 15.8 x 13.5).
Any comments/suggestions? Always welcome!
Project #2: Prepared some WBS on 9/5, 9/6. I used six half gallon jars. Three with PE and three with B+. I couldn't fit it all in my PC so it ended up being two operations. Used about 1.5ml MS syringe each jar. I can't remember which jars I did the first night of knocking them up but now that I'm writing this I'm guessing (3) PE and (1) B+. The PE jars started showing signs around 10 days later or so along with one B+ jar. Here is what the PE looks like today.
I hadn't done enough research and I shook only one of the jars. The B+ only shows signs in one jar which started a couple of days ago.
I still have some time to wait for these suckers. Should I shake twice instead of once since they are half gals? Planning to shake around 30% or so.
All jars BRF and WBS are stored in a closet that's 78-80 degf and around 50% humidity and mostly darkness (it's a closet.)
I'm excited! I found a new hobby!!! The only part I don't like is the waiting part. I'm sure it will be well worth it soon.
Well thanks for listening and hope to hear some feedback!

If you drilled the holes with the lids on and didnt clean them out it is probably rust, and yeah the ones that stalled might be too wet

The last pic looks like a contam to me, but i'm not sure. Shake the WBS jars or else the myc becomes to clumpy, and it should speed up the colonosation time.
