Hey guys got a few questions, so i only got a few poppies goin and i was wondering how many pods you would need to successfully lance a smokebale amount of raw opium? Mind you i have only ever tried it once so i am no addict looking to supply an addiction just want to be able to try it out.
Also if i lance them will the seeds contained inside the lanced pods still be viable or are they pretty much fucked?
I know its roughly 6 days after petals fall off to lance but does leaving it longer say 2 weeks effect potency or quantity? Want to wait to all the pods are ready to harvest at the same time but worry i will loose potency or quantity if i wait for the others.
Did a search but couldn't find any solid answers
Kind Regards SLiCeR

If the pods are roughly golf ball sized then perhaps 20 or so. Tolerance and potency will dictate this. If your pods are limited then tea would be a better option. More bang for your buck so to speak.

If lanced before the seeds mature then they will be useless regardless. Usually you can still use seed from lanced pods, it's just not all of them will be mature/viable. Leave the largest pod in the crop to mature for next years seed. The pod can always be utilised later.

According to literature and experience the latex production spikes and then slows down. Lower yields if left too long and I'm sure diminished potency as well.

If you do choose to lance then lance the pods and collect the latex as the individual pods mature. Save all the latex until the crop is finished and then use. Opium is quite stable and stays potent for a long time.

Say i only have 15-20 small pods would it be better to cut the pods off at 20cm and hydrate them in water for 1 hours and then lance them with just one cut each pod once or to lance them over a period of time while the pods are still attached to thew plant?
I read something about the hydrating the pods in water method but can't find any info about it now can anyone help me out or point me in the right direction?

The yields for raw opium product are pathetic, it's quite labour intensive and it makes it pretty obvious to any suspicious people what your doing . You should be able to get a few hits out of a few plants though. Extracts should be the way to go. Watch out for it's habit forming properties!
Oh don't forget to admire the flowers while they last, they are truly bedazzling.

Typically you want to lance them while they're on the plant and you can do this up to three or four times for big producers, it depends on the health and genetics of the plant. After you lance it it will bleed a white latex. It's easiest to collect by letting it ooze down the pod and then dry on it in which it will turn from white to black. If you make your cuts too big it will drop which obviously wastes product. Lance it in the evening, collect it the next morning. I've never heard anything about lancing them after soaking in water so I don't know about that.
The best indication as to when to harvest is when the little nodes where the flowers were connected begin to dry and point strait upwards which should be anywhere from a few days to a couple weeks after they flower. The pods themselves will also start to turn from a green color to more of a grey/blue and become more hard and swollen.
Lance, wait a day or two, lance again, repeat until it's not providing an appreciable yield to be worth it. Then you can combine all of your opium and cook it down into a more pure product. The last step is not necessary, but it just makes a better opium than raw opium, it might also be similar to curing marijuana where the opium alkaloids shift towards morphine and away from the less desirable alkaloids, not sure about that though, just guessing.
I *think* how you'd do that is just by boiling it in water, sticking it in the fridge, and then collecting what floats just like making cannabutter, however I don't remember for sure so if you want to cook it be sure to look that up first and don't just take my word for it.
