A different "Should I fruit this?" post

This is day 12 of colonization. Substrate is 2 pints of straight up Black Cow composted manure and 1 pint of WBS. It seems the myc is having trouble penetrating the thick compost and I'm not entirely sure it's going to colonize much more than this. Should I fruit now or let it keep on truckin'?
There was a problem with the compost in that, for one it was hard to get it to a consistency that didn't resemble mud, and two, once I did get the right moisture level, I couldn't "fluff" the compost up or add anything to fluff it up and therefore I was stuck with a dense, clumpy substrate.

Somebody holler some truth in mah fuckin' face!

Much obliged.

You should have used straw or coir to help with that. Your best bet would be to try to fruit that outdoors IMO. Looks pretty good considering the circumstances.

I was aware of that beforehand, but I bought this 50lb bag of compost for $6 and had two dozen grain jars ready to go, so this was just a little experiment I conducted to hold my insatiable curiosity at bay until I could acquire the other stuff I needed. I actually ended up finding a little cubic foot of straw the other day so I have some pretty good looking trays going now. Like I said, this was just an experiment I started with some of my excess materials.
I'd rather not try another outside grow. My yard has somewhat of an ant problem and last time I tried to grow outside, the ants built a nest a few feet away and carried off every last piece of grain within a week.
Should I let this colonize a little longer or go all out and see what happens?

That looks contaminated...or if not, the compost material is inhospitable to your mycelium.

If its an experiment, I'd let it sit for as long as it will sit. It'll either colonize completely, contam all to hell, or start to pin.

Hmm, interesting. Frank; while I recognize your extensive knowledge and experience, I'm not sure I entirely agree with that. What makes you say it looks contaminated and inhospitable?
Even though I'm still a newbie, I don't see any signs of contamination and it smells of fresh mushrooms with a hint of grains and poo. Also, I'm pretty sure the substrate is reasonably nutritious seeing as how the initial growth was pretty quick and Black Kow is nothing but composted cow manure.
The problem with this substrate is that the poo is dense and clumpy, which is difficult for my fungus to penetrate. It has no problem spreading around the poo, however.
Maddchef: that's what I'm thinking dude. I figure if I give it another week it ought ya do something.

A lot of those grains don't even look colonized. I'd say either they're contaminated, they weren't 100% colonized when you spawned which will also lead to contams, or what frank said
Edit: spelling
