You're 23 and have owned over 20 laptops?
Anyway,
Yeah I have . It's probably in excess of 30 laptops, honestly. Definitely over 20 laptops and I have 4 right now in my room (if we count laptops my family owns, we've got at least 7 not counting dinosaurs we stored away).
My current stash is two Lenovo x120e's, a Dell M5030, and an Alienware M17x R3. I guess technically I have an EEEPC too. Beowulf Cluster, anyone? (One of the x120e's has a cracked LCD though).
Some of my favorites were the Macbook Airs I owned (never an 11 incher though ), my Asus G73 (thing had a 5870 in it and looked like a jet engine), my Alienware M11x (enjoy it, section 8 black community who thought they needed it more than me... , it's not like I paid $600 for it), and frankly both x120e's I've owned are rivaled only by my current Alienware.
I've also had, Mac-wise (beyond the 2 MacBook airs I've had and used, albeit briefly because they're weak-ish), 2 15 inch macbook pros, a 13 inch macbook pro, and a 17 inch macbook pro. The lattermost of these was a fucking champ and I loved it, but ultimately I think I prefer PC.
Also, ever heard of something called "flipping"? This is the same reason I've owned over a dozen projectors. There are currently 4 projectors in my house, 3 of them mine but one doesn't work (and the one that's not mine was a gift I bought for my dad).
Fanboy , If you open that m17 you will find that the motherboard was made in the same factory as a dell , the HDD will be a WD or Samsung and so on . It's just a brand name for fanboys . WTF 30 laptops
Op just get a desktop and if you want something mobile use a smartphone or tablet . Laptops biggest downfall heat and electronics just love that shit

You go with Alienware you're just paying extra for a fancy case. Can find a similarly equipped laptop for cheaper from another company.
Here's one example..
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834200355&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleAdwords&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-_-pla-_-Laptops+%2f+Notebooks-_-N82E16834200355&gclid=CJbegqi83bkCFSZp7AodmCEAMg
That's 1400, then you can get this for 100 less and it's an upgrade in every respect except for screen size.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834257086
or this, still 50 dollars cheaper and far better equipped
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152454
out of stock but you're beginning to get the picture..
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834230996
I pretty much avoid ACER and Alienware like the plague when it's time for shopping. I currently have an ASUS (my first) and I'm in love with it. Have had it for years now and it still runs great.
EDIT: I agree with the fanboyism statement.. Fanboys want to convince you to buy it so they don't feel so bad about overpaying for theirs.

Glad I can be of help, friend. I've also had laptops from about EVERY other brand (as you can see) so if you look at other options, I can probably give you a first-hand report on how it turned out.
The m14x isn't available with the kind of components that push the limits of what's possible in gaming and computing like the M17x and -18x do, but if gaming is as secondary a consideration as it sounds, the M14x would do you well I think.
A 17 inch screen will be a LOT bigger. A LOT bigger, trust me. You'll also benefit from the incrased screen real estate, which to put it most simply will allow you to have more windows (of otherwise-equal size) on screen at once... VERY handy for working with multiple documents or programs.
I'm surprised they start so low, although you're not going to be ripping holes in space-time with the starter configurations.
I opted to get a slightly older model but that had the top range of options, which is better horsepower bang-for-your buck.
I don't know if you have a lot of trepidation about buying used, but I would encourage you to go the ebay route. You can get a configuration VERY similar to mine for right under $1000 (seriously, look at that big ole screen on the right).
5 years would not be much of a stretch at all, and you can get one that's still under warranty and then extend it through dell. Owing to Alienware being Dell's botique/"premier customer" brand, you can even (in at least some cases) add a warranty to an out-of-warranty machine, but it's pricy.
Get one under warranty and extend it if you feel the need. Might be smart, but these things are known for being reliable. They're also known for being hot though, and while I haven't checked, something tells me replacing a laptop/MXM 6970 graphics card wouldn't be very cheap.
Then again, they're designed to be pushed to the bleeding edge ALL THE TIME. The only Alienware owner I've seen personally have something fail on him was when his blu ray drive jammed and he stuck a screwdriver in it.
The best testament that I can say about how emphatic I am in my recommendation of a used Alienware M17x is that's exactly what I'd do.
It's what I did, and it's been working out great.
Just know you're never going to be able to leave your laptop out in a coffee shop when you run to the bathroom again, but Ferrari owners don't park them at inner-city Church's Chickens either.
Again, the eBay route is SOOO worth it. I have TONS of experience on there for YEARS buying and selling mainly laptops and desktops. If you'd like, I can find you some good options on there when you're ready to pull the trigger and will gladly give you my take on a particular listing if you find one yourself but are unsure or just want to double-check.
It's usually not that big of a deal to use buy it now over bidding, and you never know who's going to spike the price at the last minute. Bidding/Auction-style buying also means you might spend weeks getting outbid on all your favorite listings until you finally nab one, unless you just wanna throw a big glob of money at it towards the end (at which point, why not Buy It Now?).

I don't have a lot of experience with laptops, I only ever buy desktops. So I'm not sure where on the scale of average any of those sit. I'm just comparing specs/prices to demonstrate my point (the alienware overpricing vs other brands gets even worse when you get into desktops).

For those of you still recovering from your lobotomies or illiteracy,
I have never advocated once in my life buying a new Alienware. Used is the way to go, but if you're willing to pay a premium for extreme quality and a wealth of extra features and perks, a new Alienware isn't the dumbest thing anyone could buy. IF they have several hundred extra dollars sitting somewhere...
Also, I'm not a fanboy I've had at least 1 of most, if not every, major brand of laptop and tons of desktops too.
It's just once you find the best, why downgrade? I'll get an HP as soon as they make something better and I'm in the market, but that'd probably make me an HP fanboy, eh?
And yeah, it was made by dell. It was just made much better, and with much better options available, plus a nicer display, sexier design, etc.
Patlal, here's something to factor in too: you get an M17x R3+, you also have a portable, very high quality Full-HD display for gaming or anything else you'd want to plug HDMI into.
I've played Xbox on my laptop a lot.
Also, Patlal, 3 things people rarely think of on laptops but that are really, really important for day-to-day use are:
-keyboard: m17x is almost a slight mix of desktop and laptop style feel, but it's the best keyboard I've ever touched laptop or desktop except only for the x120e's keyboard. You'd also be amazed how convenient the backlighting is and you'll see for yourself if you get one and then ever have to use a "common" laptop in the dark.
-trackpad: it's very large, even for a 17 incher although the #2 17-inch laptop manufacturers on down have been improving on this. It's still not perfect, but it does multitouch very nicely (on Win8 especially) and while once in a while (especially if you let it get dirty/greasy) it will mess up or zoom when you were trying to scroll or something, it still does so less than ANY other laptop I've owned (20+) and any other laptop I've spent more than a few minute with (which expands this number even more) EXCEPT FOR UNIBODY MACBOOK AIRS/PROS, but their trackpads simply can't be beat for their accuracy in interpretation (you can write KANJI and MANJI on them, for Christsake) . That said, even though it messes up a little bit more than the zero times Mac trackpads mess up, I still prefer the feel of this one over the glassy feel of the macbooks'
-speaker/sound quality: unmatched. Period. No way around it. It has KLIPSCH 5.1 (aka Bose for big boys) speakers BUILT in, and yes, that was a .1 I threw in there. It has a subwoofer. Beautiful, rich sound. Just as good as my $100-something dollar Turtle Beach PS3/Xbox gaming headphones, and as clear/good (but not as loud) as my Panasonic 1000-watt 5.1 system (which is admittedly aging)

You can get a little more graphics performance for the price from those, and many upper-end "common" laptops will come with better graphics card than a baseline Alienware which costs more than them.
They won't hold a candle, especially with respect to price, to a USED Alienware though.
There are, though, TIP TOP "common" brand laptops that compete with Alienware. The Asus G73 (which I've owned) and it's predecessors can compete with all but the most tricked-out (read: expensive) Alienwares, and will be cheaper, potentially by a lot. If you are talking used, especially compared to new alienwares, you're gonna get a stupid amount of processing power for a crazy good price.

Okay so you can buy a USED Alienware for cheaper than a brand new laptop manufactured from another company, who would've thought? (that's sarcasm for the record). You could still get a similarly, or even better equipped USED laptop from another company cheaper than you could get a USED Alienware if you're going to go for used laptops. Doesn't matter if it's used or new, you're paying for extra for a name (and in most cases a 'pretty case'.)

You could still get a similarly, or even better equipped USED laptop from another company cheaper than you could get a USED Alienware if you're going to go for used laptops. Doesn't matter if it's used or new, you're paying for extra for a name (and in most cases a 'pretty case'.)
Yo dawg I just said that in my last post above yours (that I quoted).
Try not to respond to/address me if you didn't read what I said, eh?

http://www.dealzon.com/deals/lenovo-ideapad-y400-gaming-laptop-coupon#lenovo-ideapad-y410p-59392484
The fps is between 20-30 but this guy has it on the highest settings with 2xAA&1080p and you can run 900p on this laptop I think
So even if you drop to medium you'll get really good FPS which is what that setting is for and maybe this game could run battlefield 4 on like medium.
I would buy this one, it's as good looking as a ps3 but it has a large amount of memory for the card and memory for the laptop and the cpu is like 4x faster so you could do 64 players

Why yes, they do. This tends to happen when your laptop's outfitted with Klipsch speakers. Quote:

The man is trying to find something he intends to use DAILY (if not, then probably close to it) for the next 5 YEARS OF MY LIFE.
The man should simply be as informed as possible.

Klipsch sucks. BOSE for big boys
Doesn't really matter who makes it, I'm willing to bet a lot of money they don't sound particularly nice. Oh boy, a subwoofer! How exciting.
I shouldn't say they suck, but they aren't that nice either. They are like entry level type stuff for high end audio.
