Different types of grain?
    #18872770 - 09/21/13 03:55 PM (10 years, 5 months ago)

Been looking through the forum up on grains. I'm trying to avoid using WBS, it's a pain in the ass to clean, and it takes me a day to prep, and then sometimes I mess up and have to start over, so I thought I'd use Rye berries, but those don't exist where I live.

Nobody even knows what they are.
I don't want to use popcorn, i've heard bad things about them, so I was wondering what the easiest type of grain to use is?

Something specifically that easily holds the moisture content I need and does not take forever to clean.

I'm spawning to 50/50 coir and verm in a monotub, btw, for thoes wondering.

Dude, Try Finch food... it's the millet kind.... doesn't have cracked corn, which causes all the stickiness on WBS and which makes one have to rinse multiple times, sometimes even after boiling.

Millet!!!

WBS is easy to clean if you go about it right. I put it in a bucket and take it out in the yard and fill it with the hose. I scoop all the floaters out then pour off the water. I then blast water in there with the hose and let it swirl the birdseed around until the bucket is full again. I then pour off that water and repeat the process until the water runs clean. Takes less than 10 min

This is not an option for me. I prep like 50 jars at a time. I have no containers that can hold that much spawn.

You just need more buckets! Or better yet get a plastic 55 gal barrel and cut the top 1/3 off of it

I've never had a problem with wheat

Check your local craigslist first, lots of times they'll have bushels of wheat or rye for under $15 if you live anywhere near agricultural lands.
