I love Craterellus. In my top 3 probably. A very savory umami flavor. They pack a punch in the flavor dept.

That forest was magical I tell ya. One of the most beautiful places I have ever been.
I definitely recommend eating Craterellus.

Oh wow, they are up there, good to know!! I tried them once a while back, they were picked out of a spruce and tamarack bog, so much water came out of them in the cooking process and I made them soggy. But I remember the flavour being peppery when raw and cooked somewhat like other chanterelles. I think the texture threw me off. I will try the Craterellus tubaeformis again though, I'll dry sauté until most of the moisture has cooked out and strain, then maybe add some butter. That should work.

Certainly dry saute them first without anything so you know what they taste like. I think you will be impressed. As far as texture goes I am not sure what you like and don't like.
But I don't think anyone could not like these for their flavor.
Edit- Thanks para!

Awesome man! Looks like a lot of the "Yellow Foot" Chanterelles (winter chanterelle). They are very neat with a stipe more like a morel (rubbery/hollow).
I don't know as much as you but I definitely have the drive to simply be in the forest, exploring. I wish we lived nearer each other!

So friggin good. I don't care who is rolling in their graves right now.
But I do hope that I ID'd those matsutake correctly
