MONOTUB SMELLS LIKE DMT

MY monotub of coir/verm/colonized birdseed has been fully colonized for about three days now and colonizing for about sixteen or seventeen. Slow colonizing Penis Envys. This is my first tub. All is well and the Myc is looking pretty crazy, expecting pins anyday. I have noticed one thing. My tub smelled like fungus but upon 100% colonization it started seriously having a slight smell of DMT coming off the tub upon opening for fanning, once I fan the top layer of gas I can smell the fresh fungus again. Can anyone tell me if this is the smell of phosphorus or C02? Its not a rot or bacteria smell and I have full creamy white growth all over. Also it easily fans out revealing the true fungus smell below

CO2 is odourless, its only recoglisable in concentrations that aerobic mushrooms can not produce. Phosphor shouldnt be in your substrate in such amounts that you can smell it. Now I don´t know the smell of DMT, but I remember a halogene-like smell that always annoyed me when I had tried to grow huge amounts of P. mexicana mycelium, which never fruited. Something was wrong with them, so I assumed they maybe produced some kind of reactive oxygen species as an immune reaction. That smell reminded me of hydrogen peroxide, or Povidone-iodine. Id was quite a stinging odour, a bit acrid. Is it like that?

Typically, if you are smelling anything other than fresh mushrooms, you are seeing the first signs of contamination. CO2 is odorless and phosphorus basically is the smell of matches, while burnt DMT has more of a burning plastic smell to it. In my opinion these smells are easily distinguishable. If you are using a new tub, this could be the source of the smell. Other than that, if you are using a liner, that could be it as well. My best guess

I bet it's just the tub that smells like the DMT. I thought I smelled it once too but it was just the tubs. After you do DMT a few times it seems like you're always smelling that smell somewhere.

It might just be the tub. I remember dmt smelling like weird plastic and your monotub is probably made of plastic, so yeah.
Anyhow, good luck with it!

DMT smells very strongly of naphtha, in fact, unless you have ever smelled synthesized DMT or 5-methoxy, you probably associate the smell of naphtha with DMT. this actually makes me wonder about the monotub, or maybe you're confusing the smell of DMT.
So, rationally, I am assuming your monotub smells like naphtha. Which may be just its natural smell (the tub). I don't see any other explanation really. Except the whole "mushrooms add a 4-hydroxy to everything" hinting that at some point, perhaps there is some DMT present. Or maybe that's a myth. But it does add a 4-ho to any tryptamine in the substrate

DMT only smells like solvents (naphtha) if you don't dry it all the way. It smells like d-limonene if you use that kind of extraction.

Yeah i think its fine it is smelling normal now. Just can't get this sucker to fruit. Been fruiting about a week but the first three days my light was insufficient or so I thought. Hardly any light was reaching and illuminating the substrate but once I got a better one I was able to spot two tiny plants sprouting lol I picked them but since one or two tiny ones have started growing so obviously there was some light reaching the tub

They should pin even in complete darkness. Not ideal, but I wouldn't think light is the No.1 issue.

I have had so many things pin in-vitro in complete darkness. Cubes don't need the light to pin.
The very first time I grew I put grow bags in a completely opaque tub covered so light didn't get in because I thought that's what was a good idea at the time. Even in those conditions they grew like mad.

You're right they don't need light to pin or fruit but you get much better fruits and yeild with proper lighting
