I don't think that was the point of the video.. IMO it was highlighting some differences between how the majority of men and women think. Sometimes the other person just wants a listening ear...

I'll listen to her, but if she has a problem that has a solution, I'll be fixing it. I don't have time to listen to whining. Fix the damm problem and put it behind you. Problem fixing seems to fix problems faster than empathy.

Not really - it depends on the perceived problem.. And understanding your partners needs goes a long way towards developing the perfect relationship.

Here's what I don't get, why the fuck do you need empathy when the solution is right in front of you and you could simply reach for it, remove that weight from your shoulders and move on.

Because sometimes people just want to vent or to be comforted by knowing that there is someone else who understands and can relate. It doesn't necessarily mean they don't want to fix the problem.

So you see it is actually a perfect example of one person recognizing and trying to fix a very real problem while all the other one wants to do is complain about it. I'm not going to get into the gender issue..
By the way, that woman in the video is an excellent actress.

Comfort is needed with things that can't be solved:
- Death of someone close - Friend moving far away - Loss of a job - House burnt down - Cancer - Large unexpected expense
Other than that, if it's fixable, quit whining and fix it.

Well, as long as you guys have the wisdom to realize when it isn't, and give us the comfort we seek when it is one of those gray area times, then all should go smoothly, shouldn't it?
I get what is trying to be conveyed. That there's no point in wasting time whining about something when you could be fixing it. But sometimes it can't always be fixed, or can't be fixed immediately. But you're still upset about the situation so then what? Sometimes you just want to come home and vent about it, have some time to calm down, THEN think about fixing the problem.

That is all a wonderfully nuanced and accurate description of what some issues are. Nebulous and often incredibly changeable. But sometimes.................sometimes............................THERE'S A FUCKING NAIL IN YOUR HEAD.
There is a gender difference that is real even if it is being grossly exaggerated in this video. Men want to take care of the people around them in different ways than women do. Men are more concerned with protecting their loved ones from physical threats and women want to protect them more from emotional threats. Generally speaking, of course. Different styles of nurturing.

Tired gender stereotypes.
I know a dozen women who would pull the nail out of their head without a second thought.
And a dozen men that would bitch about a nail in their head for hours, fishing for pity.
And vice-versa.
People spend so much time bitching about how women are so crazy and emotional. When women act reasonable, people ignore them or declare that they're acting masculine and unpleasant. There's no winning this shit because the accusing party is always just an asshole that wants to feel superior.

i originally created this thread with a very tongue in cheek intention. If anyone took me seriously i apologize. If any 'truth' comes from the video its just that women tend to be more emotional creatures while men tend to be more pragmatic. Neither is superior, both have their place.

I don't think it's a coincidence that the characters' scripts weren't reversed.
She doesn't strike me as an emotional communicator so much as an irrational pain in the ass looking to start a fight. Yes, plenty of women are really like that, so the video isn't "wrong," but I don't find them funny, I find them frustrating, and I sure as hell don't think that of women in general.
Surely everyone here has had someone in the past say something cruel or inaccurate about them, then claim it was, "just a joke." It was probably really funny to a lot of people too... except for the person it was about.
