plants = flora, animals = fauna, now i am really hitting a brick wall to think of fungi...is it fungi? i was thinking it should be myc...something. is there a word to describe the fungi kingdom? or does flora cover it in this sense?

Technically closer to say fauna when refering to fungi, but will get you the same 'you are stupid' looks you get when you call a tomato a fruit. Fungi, like animals and unlike plants, respire co2, and expel oxegen, and unlike plants, ARE NOT PHOTOSYNTHETIC! So shut up, or be prepared for some unintelligible debates. Seriously good question. Fungi are considered their own kingdom these days. How that works in day to day english conversations, good luck to you.

In the late Cretaceous period, the first Cannabis species appear, and soon after, all the non-bird dinosaurs disappeared. Obviously, marihuana killed the dinosaurs. That giant meteor that smacked the yucatan peninsula right afterwards, coincidence.

yes i know about their classification and how they are different and all that good stuff, but they used to be classed with plants, not animals and thus they would i assume more likely be called flora by most people. just a guess. but there must be another term just for the fungi group seeing as they are on par with plant and animal ranking. For some reason i thought it would be easy and common knowledge and that i was just being blank for a bit.

No, you have it figured out very well.

Hell yeah, inski. Did you coin that term?

No, that is the correct term used to describe a group of fungi from a particular area or associated with certain organisms. For example, I study the Cortinarioid Mycoflora that form mycorrhizal associations with Southern Beech trees.

True. But considering that their chitin cell wall links them To the animalia, maybe we should petition to change the name to mycofauna. I often tease me vegan friends when they scarf down the portobello sandwich. "ur eating ur ancestors there pal".

This is true but fungi typically don't respond rapidly to stimuli like animals do...

Mine do, have you ever watched your jars, petris, mono's, etc? They seem to change faster than animals. I'd say the equivalent is lesser fungi and bacteria. This is why we pasturize to hone in the bacteria in the substrate and remove any competing fungi. I haven't read specifically about any remaining fungi after pasturization, but I could see trace amounts of ergot, or at least ergotamine by products remaining which help keep other competing fungi at bay. This is likely why Rye, and grains in general, are ideal starting choices for spawn. After PCing whether the fungi remain or not their byproducts do after they're broken down and these by products, just like the byproducts of mushrooms (metabolites), help condition the environment for more of that type of growth.

Mycota is sometimes used to describe the Kingdom of Fungi.

Yes, but what I mean is that they don't move or respond at all when touched like animals do!

isn't there fungi that loops and traps tiny worm like organisms, thus moving?
plus, fungi dont need to move, they make animals move for them.
