Interesting Pins
    #18869228 - 09/20/13 07:45 PM (10 years, 4 months ago)

Hello folks,
It's almost fall and I have started keeping an eye out for interesting mushrooms in the Seattle area.

This evening, I peeked under some blackberry bushes. I didn't expect to see anything but then noticed what looked like pins really far back in the shadows.

I took a couple of photos but I was not able to get super close because I didn't want to disturb the area.

I count 4 pins in the first image and at least seven in the second.

Any thoughts on what they might be? Habitat seemed right for wavy caps. Deep shadow, lots of wood chips, ground cover, etc.

Thanks

They are not any species of Psilocybe.

Its unlikely you will be able to ID them at this stage, until they grow more.

The substrait looks more like gravel and dirt to me with little to no blackberry debri in it. The Psilocybes may grow on the twigs but are not going to thrive unless they are mulched up.

Favorite quote: I want to know if they are active and magic or not. And if they are not active, can i pick them before they are active and then they will become active or do they have to grow till they activate?

Thanks!
There was a lot more wood mulch a few inches away and just out of the frame but these are definitely poking up out of dirt. I wasn't sure if the mycelium would ever travel away from the main substrate a bit before fruiting.

In any case, I'm just getting eager for the season to begin.
Time to go look some more...

Cheers!
