always amazes me how tenaciously we (most of us) cling to life no matter what the conditions.  It's like we lose if we are not the last one standing. :haha:

This has been on my mind all day today.

I don't think we just cling to life itself though, I think we cling to this idea that we hold what life should be (among other things). I think about how attached everyone is to their sense of self or their identity, and how they're willing to preserve that at a hefty cost. Like people who'll fight a war to maintain a way of life, or to maintain their belief in a religion... like they're fighting for something greater than themselves.

I know I'm attached to my sense of intelligence, and I've identified myself with that for a long time. I would give up nearly anything to maintain my intelligence or my sense of intelligence -- like I'd hate the idea of losing something that I've gained, like knowledge (or perceived knowledge).

It's crazy to even see people who'll still pick life, even if it isn't meaningful to the individual. Like being bed ridden in a hospital because they don't want to die.

Life be crazy like that. :awesomenod:

When you think your way of life is important and then realize everyone thinks that and people who think that are dropping like flies all around you some cognitive dissonance sets in. :imspecial:

I made this post while you were away but your post reminded me of it and I thought you might relate.

http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/18825916

I get cognitive dissonance all the time when I realize a happy ending is mostly BS and that such an idea is what feels so important and worth clinging to. Making a happy ending to whatever story is going on at the moment. Bleh.

I've never claimed otherwise.  I'm just a little less stoopid.
