Went out hunting for a while.
    #18867848 - 09/20/13 01:47 PM (10 years, 4 months ago)

Habitat: ne ohio. Ive been checking forests in my area with deadfallen trees and a canopy. The spot I was at today has a crek bed running through it thats half dried up. Prolly just a water shed or whatever they call it. The chiken of the woods was found on the roadside growing from a cut tree stump
1. Laetiporus sulphureus

2. my guess psathyrella? Im never lucky enough to find bruising clusters this big. No noticeable bruising as of yet. they r brittle.

3. little yellow mushrooms with roots like xerula.

4. baby psathyrellas or coprinus sp.? found on same tree as the above psathyrella sp., gills white then gradually with age turning purpleish black.

5. went back to check on the pholiotas. the one I took I pinched the cap within minutes it turned burgundy.

I think it's just a species of Laetiporus that grows on conifer. Do you know what kind of tree stump that was?

If you are going to eat it only try a small amount at first because they've been known to cause stomach upset in some people. I've eaten them with no problem.

Ok thanx Maynard will do. Thats what I did with the last
Laetiporus I had. Tasted like lemon chicken. Love it! I read also about the gastric upsets in some people. I have no allergies to anything other then pollen that I know of. I will still play it safe!:mushroom2:
