first grow update: colonization pics
    #18863034 - 09/19/13 01:14 PM (10 years, 5 months ago)

So I inoculated 7 jars 5 weeks ago and 5 jars 4 weeks ago. 12 jars and only 1 contamination so far. There are a few that seem to have some furry or fluffy white spots as opposed to the more ropey mycelium, if that makes any sense. These pics probably don't show this well because they were taken with shitty cell phone. Also not sure if 5 weeks is longer than usual but they seem to be progressing. They are in my kitchen were it is between 70 and 80 degrees and room humidity is 50%. Here are some random pics from week 2 through 5, let me know what you guys think.

I've always found when inoculating tall
half pints, by tilting the jar just
enough, you can allow spore solution
to trickle down the inside of the jar.
Often it speeds up colonization times
by allowing spores to germinate closer
to the bottom of the substrate jar.

Over time, using the tall ones. Substrate begins to settle in the bottom
slowing the growth of colonization.
You should look for Ziploc plastic short
half pints, they're all I use now.

Wish you luck.

Thanks for the advice DynGBreeD.
When the jars are fully colonized will the dry verm at the top be colonized as well? I noticed that some cakes have pulled away from inside of jar. Is this normal?

Thanks again for any advice given.

No, but there might be some strands of myc running through it.

Pulling away from the sides is normal.
It's the mycelium consuming the substrates
nutrients.

It's also normal that the vermiculite
is being colonized, I've found it to
be common using the tall half pints.

And you're more then welcome.
