It looks to me like you have 3 or 4 different species here. I recommend sorting them and taking close up pictures that show the cap and stem as well as an up close shot of the gills is always nice.

I walked for miles through treacherous woods, looking for warm dark and damp places for strong contenders of magic mushrooms and I find THESE in a football pitch and by the riverside they have the nipple and the right colour don't they?

It can take up to a week before signs of mushroom poisoning appear. Just thought I would throw that out there. I forget who said this but, "There are bold mushroom hunters, and there are old mushroom hunters, there are no old bold mushroom hunters." Or something like that.

Amatoxin poisoning takes up to 24 hours, Muscarine 3-4 hours and certain Cortinarius species can take up to several weeks.

Thank you. I am lucky I haven't poisoned myself. I am eager to be one of those 'old hunters' not the bold one.
I am considering buying a kit to homegrown my own, so that should be safer. But I like going for long walks and enjoy looking for them. One day I would like to know all there is about magic mushrooms so that I can share the knowledge and save others from making this same mistake...
I am asking for help, please.

growing mushrooms takes time patience, money, and absolute sterility. given the time of year, much liklier to find a good amount of mushies if you focus down for a few days and do as much research as possible about the psilocybin mushrooms in your area, then hunt. If you do grow, do research, NEVER start from a kit for numerous reasons, anyone will tell you that, so please ask around in the cult forum, those people know their shit, well some haha.

Don't be eager to be an old hunter, being eager makes you do things like eat unidentified mushrooms and continur to do so after several people have told you not to.
patience is a virtue my man.

I will do some research of the psilocybin in my area but fear that may be limited. I may need some help...
Perhaps I better look in the cult forum. I am having some difficulty finding that...

In the city of Aberdeen, Scotland, United Kingdom. There aren't many fields with livestock nearby. A long walk away... I'm thinking I will have to go to the countryside regularly to hunt. Out in the middle of nowhere. Hmmm I've heard around this time of year is the season for finding them and that I will have to look early in the mornings haha
Of course, I'm willing to go to such lengths. I would like a better idea of where to look

"There are bold mushroom hunters, and there are old mushroom hunters, there are no old bold mushroom hunters."
No offense man but why in the hell wont you listen to the experts? One guy said you wont die and even he said dont eat anymore and you did. Others said dont do it and you did it some more! There are amatoxins in some mushrooms that will destroy your liver in 2 weeks time. At first you will feel fine. Im not trying to be mean but posts like this are quite common and I see why TI's are frustrated. Be safe dont eat random mushrooms please! we dont want to see anyone die from mushroom poisoning. I mean why ask for advice if youre going to do the opposite anyway? I can see if ones starving but Im sure you could find something else to eat. Have a good day. Pleas take these words lightly for I am just another observer
I seen you are listening now. Im glad you came around. The forums here are full of knowledgeable experienced mushroom hunters. cultivators etc. they will NOT steer you wrong bud! Theres a few exceptions but thats where patience is a virtue

That is your absolute best bet right now. You've got the weekend coming up; get out there and do some hunting. Scotland is a great place to be in any case, and it's one of the best places worldwide for hunting liberty caps.

I'm back. There are two types here, one with stems attached, and the bigger ones are mostly broken apart. I found them at an area where I startled some deer. I think they were having for breakfast, ha And droppings. So basically seems like only 2 varieties, big crushed up ones and small whole ones. Sorry >_<

Still no cigar. Chuck them and for the love of Pete, stop hauling masses of unidentified and uninteresting mushrooms into your home...go out to the fields where there are (or have been) sheep. Fields with clumps of sedge growing in them are usually the best.

Looks like a bunch of Psathyrella and maybe some Mycena. It would be a lot easier to take pictures of the mushroom before you pick them and then upload them so we can save you the trouble of taking a bunch of useless mushrooms home with you.

The identifiers here are awesome! Usually if you give them a pic of the habitat or a closeup with partial habitat showing, pics of the cap, stem and gills they can guess it right away. Maynard is right. Just take a couple of the ones you think are (edible) and before you do get habitat pics. This helps cut down on clutter at your home and for the ID process. Good luck & keep at it! Your in a great location for actives! Wish I could go hunting with you lol.

If you dont mind my asking how do you know this? Most of the Amanita muscaria var. guessowii I find have bites taken out of them by I suspect deer. Theres this pine tree forest I hunt that there are almost no Amanitas on one side and a couple on the other. one frequent thing I see is marks in the pine needles where it looks like deer dug mushrooms up. I always say to myself, deer musta got here first....

It's common knowledge that reindeer eat Amanita muscaria for it's intoxicating effects.

no shit? Gonna have to google that TY
\Oh wait I recall now that you said that when watching a movie on amanita they mentioned something about how ssanta was modeled after a siberian shaman that would use reindeer and a sled to deliver or sell dried amanitas. It makes sense why people claim santas reindeer can fly!!!

I'm away for a walk where I think there might be sheep. It's a long walk. I hope I get lucky before it gets dark.
Can anyone find out sheep locations in Aberdeen because I've had no luck.

I'm pretty certain that Santa Clause is actually a personification of the Amanita muscaria mushroom. I don't want to go into all my reasoning at the moment, but I might later if necessary.

I believe so too! I watched numerous videos on the subject a really good one is here:
you have to watch a bit into it after the b&w part is over they talk of amanita,
Says easter, santaclaus and many other things we celebrate came about because of the Amanita

You should be looking in fields with grass about ankle high, with bigger tufts of grass all over, A field that has animals grazing, or had withing the last 5 years or so..........
Now thats where I would look right now, I have no EXP. hunting Liberty caps but your in lib country and this is the time is it not, starting to get colder, From what I understand they will fruit until it frost once or twice....So get out and VERY IMPORTANT...this has helped me spot many shrooms.....You must walk EXTREMELY SLOW THROUGH THE GRASS, and every ten steps, get down and take a peep around , get real low, Look in all the TUFTS of grass, where there is a clump of higher grass, or around older shit patties....From my Exp here in the states hunting cubensis. Those TUFTS or CLumps of grass that shoot up real high when all the rest of the grass is low from grazing animals, is usually do to a pile of shit, being there and the animals dont like to eat there own shit so they graze around it, allowing the shit to fertilize the grass and then you get that burst in growth, which is also why its supreme spots to check for your Liberty caps, and in the southern united states, we check those clumps of grass for pan cyans and cubensis........Also Your gonna want to check and see what kind of wood lovers grow in your area...IF Psilocybe Cyanescens does, then go to all local parks with wood chips around, check the wood chip beds, and dont stop until you have checked every park possible.....Dont waste your time looking for Cyanescens in the wild, I did and never was sucessful but as soon as someone turned me onto a park, LOW AND BEHOLD in mid january freezing weather, there were tiny 2 incher psilocybe cyanescens all over, some solid blackish blue from the cold, That patch was one of the very few left in all of washington that year,,,,,IT WAS so cold, I had no hopes of finding anything, So get out there before it starts to freeze, 40's at night and 50 to low 60's with the rain is premo for the liberty caps and the cyanescens in the wood chips.....ALso, All along the sides of the roads, Look for landscaped areas that have wood chips, I have seen many pics of cyanescens growing on the side of roads up in PNW united states where the city landscapes and lays wood chips.............And other than that, Check School yards on the weekend, they use allot of wood chips....you wont find them by the play structures but again any where that is landscaped,,,,under bush's, around trees, areas with coverage.....GOOD LUCK>>>>keep us all posted....You should have a few species besides libs that you can hunt.....The cyans will probably last much longer after a rain than the liberty caps,,,The liberty caps will be the hardest hunt I believe...Your gonna have to get them the day they FRUIT, or the day after,,,,,,They look so fragile I cannot imagine them lasting very long after they fruit, not to mention how hard they will be to spot in the grass, so remember, Mushroom hunting is never a walk,,,,,,ITs a two steps stop. scan the area....another two steps repeat....I even get down to grass level...ITs amazing how many shrooms appear once you bend down and just look around for TEN minutes....

I FOUND THESE TIPS FOR YOU ON AREAS TO LOOK>>>>>>
near Glasgow (on the road to Aberfoyle) should get out to 'The Wangie'. There should be loads of them there at the moment.
It used to be my harvesting area when I lived in Glasgow.
Old Kilpatrick to Helensburgh man ffs.. And carry on all the way round to Cove. Either that or jump in your motor cross the Erskine Bridge and hit the Glennifer Braes in Paisley
Greenock and Port Glasgow
All the hills each side all the way up and down the Clyde Valley. I have two cracking wee spots up the kilpatrick hills . Glengoin distillery area is pretty good iv heard. Muirshiel country park at the kiam dam . Basically every fookin where. Iv no even picked any this year tho. I seen my first around the 20th aug . They should still be around for a wee bit after the first couple of frosts (contrary to popular belief) as long as they are not to prolonged or hard. Iv picked libs in October b4 . But aye get your skates on. Effort equals reward. Its a symbiosis ,the shrooms get your effort and you get their reward . just get out there. i love semilenceta mushrooms ramble ramble ramble
ALL THAT INFO I FOUND ON A PUBLIC SITE THAT IS NOT MUSHROOM RELATED BUT IT WAS A TOPIC FROM A YEAR OR TWO AGO< NOW THAT IS NOT EXACT LOCATIONS SO THAT SHOULD BE WITHIN THE RULES TO POST>>>EITHER WAY HURRY UP CHECK THEM WRITE EM DOWN!!!! or do your own search...google. SCOTLAND PSILOCYBE MAGIC MUSHROOMS......see what you find,,,,allot of peeps share relative areas and fields it seems where you live,,,,,,quite different than here in the unitedstates....here if sumone finds a patch you be hard up to get even an area code out of them!!! LOL......But I have had a few really cool peeps give me tips......SO there still legit yankees abroad, i must say ladie........lol........now thats about as much as a stranger could help........Now if you could only tell me exactly were a nice weilii patch is right now....lol...

Thanks everyone for your support! Just one other thing. I'm a bit paranoid when it comes to entering other people's fields/property. Nature reserves are public places but someone's livestock is their livelihood and will want to keep people out! Would you recommend going at dawn and dusk? Or am I being paranoid??

You're not really being paranoid. It is private land after all. The worst that is likely to happen either way though is that you're asked to leave. It's better if you can find farm land with public footpaths that go through them.

The best reason for going at dawn is they won't be buggy or browsed. If you stick to what looks like open access land, which is to say green fields that don't require scaling walls and don't have signs forbidding entry, you should be fine. Technically even if trespassing - a private and distinct offense - taking mushrooms (or any of the 4 fs: fruit, fungi, flowers and foliage) that are untended is allowed. Obviously Psilocybe is a different thing but just so you know, foraging is no crime.

Psilocybe semilanceata = liberty cap; grows in pastures Psilocybe cyanescens is a wood-loving mushroom of which plenty pictures are available online. You'll never find both of them growing in the same habitat. Your best bet is ps. semilanceata; generally much easier to find in Europe/UK than ps. cyanescens.

No shit i was taking time lapse pics of mushrooms in the cemetery here and the third day back not a remnant to be found. I know mushies like phoenix wither away completely almost to be reborn again from the ashes so to speak. Btu this was a puffball and three day old amanita. Nothing left behind! I shit u not I think they neighbors of the cemetery who i caught spying on me literally picked them to throw away so i wouldn't be lurking around their PRECIOUS properties anymore! I even had a situation where i saw a group of amanita vaginatae i think growing in a nearby yard. The owner whom ive met years ago was walking outside and i calmly said. Nice gang of mushrooms u got there in your yard. The look on his face was like fucking great. No you cant come in my yard and pick them! I calmly said good day and walked down through the park. Minutes later I seen him point to them to his kids. They went and stomped every last one! Could be kids doing what they do but ive ran into people round here who are so crazy about landscaping or selfish even that they mow 3 times a week! Especially if they see a dandelion or mushroom pop up. Its fucking insane!

I think i found some. I had to leave because I turned around and had a whole herd of sheep staring at me. I don't like feeling like I'm being watched.
They have the liberty cap, dark brown in colour. Really easy to miss. So small. Ill load photos soon. Ps can they also be found in cow fields? Pps how are they best consumed?

Well done. You see, all it takes is a little patience and time to gain knowledge from literature and others. And this site is the best place to do it.
Keep looking at other pics, especially on the Official UK Liberty cap thread. You will see the variant appearances of semilanceata and gradually you'll be able to spot them from 10 metres away!
Most important, keep out there as much as you can. Now you know the kind of place to find them - mix of short grass and long tufts, especially where grazed by sheep, horses, rabbits and sometimes (but only sometimes) cows (nb libs do not grow directly off dung!).
It will soon become second nature and as long as you're careful you could be doing well right through October.
Also don't eat anything lib-sized but orange-red coloured in pastures - some of these will be fine (not active or deadly) but the odd Galerina grows there, and you really *DON'T* want to eat one of those...

I found a ton more today, ill upload pics later, this time they're mostly white or pale, unlike the last libs I picked which were all a dark brown colour. They still have the teat though. There's a couple I'm not sure about, one is orangey colour and another is rather than a kinda peanut shape his a wider almost flat cap, but with a teat. Ill upload pics soon for identification.

The one on the right of your last photo looks questionable to me, wait for a T.I though. You beat me too it looking weird, I would probably toss it.
I would recommend drying them on some paper with a fan blowing over them.

To be honest, there's a fair few that are questionable. They are either too rounded, white or have no teat. But then some have the teat.. I wouldn't have picked them otherwise though. Then again, even though they have a teat, does that mean they are magic? I don't know. Ps I don't have a fan, what kind of fan? Like this?

Yeah a little fan like that, or somewhere with good air exchange. Libs are pretty small just leaving them uncovered and spreading them out on some paper towels should dry them I would imagine.
The fan I use is a small 6 inch desk fan and it works pretty well.
If your going to buy a fan for drying mushrooms I would recommend biting the bullet and buying a dehydrator though.

Air dry them a couple of days. Then buy some damp-rid (calcium chloride) and put a layer of that in a plastic container.
Put the air dried shrooms in some coffee filters and place them on top of the damp rid in the container. Close the lid and wait 24 hrs.
Your mushrooms are now cracker dry (you can pulverise them to powder with your fingers) and ready for storage in a glass mason jar.
They will keep for a couple of years treated this way.

Okay well, I put them back in the foil container and are sitting in a dark cupboard in my kitchen. I have the window open and the weather looks grey, it's not too cold though. Should I take the lid off the container and place next to the window?

I put them all into a pot on the stove and had a cup of tea. It started off good then Had a really bad trip and panicked. Thought i was dying and Ended up getting taken to hospital. Thought I was getting launched into space but no it was an ambulance. Thought I devolved into a man beast and was screaming "holy fuck!" It was awesome. Wish I didn't ruin it by acting like a wuss. :/ ha ha

This thread was like watching an MSN chat (do people still use that?) between a TI and some Aberdonian grabbing random mushrooms until he got libs. I admire the persistence, but at least try and research.
Must say it's better than the individual threads of "emergency" ID's because someone needs to know whether they're about to trip or shit.

That used to happen a lot with users here back in the day. Probably still does. Can't tell some people nothing.
