    #18865902 - 09/20/13 12:27 AM (10 years, 5 months ago)

Did pretty good today, Me and a couple of buddy's. 1.50$ a pound though, got 112 lbs.

Here's a massive one, We were all impressed, could barely get our hands around it.

Just cause i seen it, I took a picture anyways. Here's a Admirable Bolete.

Xerocomus chrysenteron is my guess for the Bolete.
That is an incredible amount of chanterelles! It took me over 2 hours to wash off 1 bucket of them the other day. Did you sell them all?

for 1.50, i wouldnt do that ever, especially if you had to clean them... i would dry them and save them for post fall when everyone wants warm chanterelles in the cold of winter =) people pay more, you got to get certified then though with product information, unless you just give them away. crazy haul man...

When we pick we clean, no need for water to clean them. Cut the dirty foot off and wipe or blow off as much dirt and pine needles or whatever, then into bucket they go.
at end of day they are sold to the mushroom buyer here in my town i live in and then they are sold to whoever the buyer has that buys off her. it's worth going out just for $1.50 since it's just awesome being out in the bush getting fit and away from all the bullshit of the regular day in the city.

Selling them for that low of a price undercuts the market harshly. I hate
when people sell that low especially people not trying to make a living off of the mushrooms.

I am sure you did not consider this so I am not coming down on you but think about
the fact that there are people trying to make money for food and shelter doing this.

Then you come in and sell for such a low price then they are up shit creek. Stick with the market and be competitive for sure but don't
drop so low that the market tanks. I compete on the $.25 range.

If I am trying to sell and they aint buyin' Ill try to undercut the competitor by $.25 but will never sell for less than $4 a pound in the height of the season just out of respect
for others and the market's health itself.

Ive been selling for $12 down to $6 dollars a pound so far this season.

I would want to rip your head off if you were in my neighborhood.

Either way nice haul I bet it was a nice time.

I don't have a great income bud, It's still for the money but since the market is so low i am trying not to get discouraged from going out whenever i can.

Around here it's the local crackheads and booze hounds we are competing with, sounds harsh but it's true. Me and my buddies have been at it since august and we have brought in Lobsters to Chantrelles, The buyer considers us the regulars and to be honest it was Washington that flooded the market and brought down our prices here.

There's tons of them here man! like i mean TONS! and not all of the pickers are this way. I just meant the majority.

Area's are pretty much second growth forests usually more higher up but can be lower just a matter of where you look. I find where cedar trees have been or are growing is not a good spot at all, try looking pine/fur areas.

If you're still curious about the bolete, Xerocomus chrysenteron probably isn't it unless it has a crackled cap. Like, crackled in that you can see the yellow flesh in the crackles. But I would have to know everything more about it to figure it out. My best guess would be Boletus rubellus.

Thanks i will keep that in mind. It just looked similar to the picture in my book i have, but lots of mushrooms do look similar to each kind.
