anyone growing neem?

Neem (Azadirachta indica) trees have a long history of medicinal use in India and around the world, from soap to insect repellant to healing ailments. Seed is notoriously difficult to germinate as it must be fresh. From what I have gathered, older than a month will not germ. After two failed attempts, I got my hands on 16 healthy seedlings, just potted up today.

Some info can be found here (or all over google, for that matter.)
Anyone else growing these great trees?

I would love to grow that someday. For some reason i was thinking neem looked like a succulent vine, with thin leaves, and i think i got that from that movie with redman'howhigh'
EDT:Oh wow this is a very interesting tree indeed! ..MOre reasearch, yay!

Very cool. They use neem for all kinds of things in India. Many health and beauty products. I've also heard of a paste made from the leaves that is eaten and is supposed to be very healthy.
And then there's the insecticidal/fungicidal/miticidal properties as well.

As it is a tree plant, you should not except the huge growth rate.. Also the young trees takes lots of time before they starts to their more rapid growth.. More roots = more growth per season.
Also I suggest to keep them in very hot and humid if possible... Cause they are from zones what are very humid areas.
Would be nice to get these plants, if not purpose to produce them for pesticide, just for a decoration. I like all kind of plants as decoration what have somekind of history, doesn't matter is the history of the plant for religious sacrament, used for something else or what.. Loving to collect them.
My cold pressed neem soap are from sri-lanka grown trees. That tree is possibly cultivated around that region where is hot and humid year around and cause of demand of neem soap as pesticide, possible new regions where the actual neem soap can come can spread more.
How hot and humid temperatures you give to these plants? Have you tried to increase humidity and temperature in order to get them grow faster or are they just slow growing seedlings like all trees are at the beginning of their life.
Very nice to see what kind of plant neem tree seedlings are cause I use neem oil as pesticide. Also I have heard it used to get rid of all kind of pest from domestic dog and cat fur. I have found neem oil is ingredient to several products from plant pesticide to health care products.
Atleast I have found it effective also as systemic way. I dip my lophophora pots to pool of water with neem to get neem to roots and also some of the ingredients from neem oil will act as systemic on long term use. Good product, nice seedlings!
I have tasted the cold pressed neem oil soap, it tastes fking awful even smell is okay compared to chemicals I have tried to use as pesticide. I tried very very small drop of neem on my finger tip and then taste it with my tongue, taste feels it will never goes away..

I live in SE USA, very hot and humid. A few months a year temps can get down into the 30s at night but day time temps usually stay up in the 70s or 80s. I have used neem soap for myself as well as neem oil for plants. There are seemingly limitless uses for this tree. I'm excited to get these started so I can plant in the ground next spring, hopefully will have some full trees in the coming years.

cpw, is the toothpaste weird? The smell of neem oil is strange but I've grown to really like it. I have soap I use that works great. < >
