I dont mean to be mean but you kids are crazy. Or need to get out more. Or live without internet/cell phone.
You sit down, glance at your favorite local newspaper, or even- I know, sounds crazy, walk over to the other stranger waiting for their drink and say- "Good morning. What's your poison this morning? etc etc" And at the end, "Keep it easy." Or if you guy mentions something about that day, say something relevant like "Give him hell, today, boss" Chances are, if you both have regular schedules, you'll see him again.
And then maybe, a few months later, you'll have a friend. Facebook offical.
And most importantly at all, glad someone mentioned it-
You guy's that sit there avoiding eye-contact with everybody, while on your phone, not waving or simply nodding your head to acknowledge that person's existence, is the most disappointing thing I see. And I see it a damn lot.
Gives me no hope for better emotional evolution.
Probably out for the night

Meet everybody you see everywhere yoou go. Cellphones are lame because everyone uses them wrong. In my incredibly criticisive opinion.

I don't recall much of a difference for me. I didn't have a cell until 2010. I can take it or leave it.

I try not to bury my face in my phone during every mundane piece of my life but there's nothing for me to do. I could sit down and meditate but it would feel weird doing that in a coffee shop. and why would I carry a book around with me when I can read e-books and articles on my phone? I don't really care for talking to strangers either.
Pretty much the same kinds of things people who don't always play with a phone do to pass time now. In the absence of props, you can just look out a window or daydream/think to yourself. I never owned a cell phone until about 2009, and the ones I had before my current one didn't do much but make phone calls.

Also! in my opinion and experience, There's always a guy reading a news paper. Sometimes 20, sometimes 80.
Striking up a conversation with them could very well make their day, if not week. And if they're douchey about it, give him hell If you're a friendly regular, the workers will recognize you and side with you if the douche complains. And then he'll probably have learned something from it.
Pass on and share good vibes

i dont know what I would have done I hate small talk (I dont even make small talk with my family) I also hate people...unless they are really nice like really old ladies or something like that.
I also find that I dont have much in common with the average person and the things I do have in common with people I dont really enjoy sitting around talking about it because then I end up having to explain a lot of things, due to my complex way of thinking.

You have 99%+ in common with the average person.
Eating and drinking are the most important things humans do. And everyone has their preference on food on drink.
Regarding your inability to assimilate with "normies" due to your "having to explain a lot of things, due to my complex way of thinking."
A quote from Einstein, "If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough."

You sound pretentious. But you can fix that. If you try to.

I think there was a hella lot less introverts before the digital age
P.S even if I don't really have anything to do with myself I don't usually just look at my phone for no reason and stuff or something
Many friends of mine have admitted that when they're "using their phone", they're just flipping through the menu. A couple even confided that they pretend to be having important phone conversations... with no one on the other end of the line Quote:

I am flabbergasted by this question! I was born in the 60's, so I do know full well what it was like. We talked more, read more newspapers, magazines, books, etc...There was also about 10 or so phone numbers I could remember right off the top of my head. I can remember only about 2-3 now. *SIGH*
Cell phones/hand held comps are changing the way humans interact with one another. There is no stopping it. We must all deal with it/roll with it as best we can. For those of you who have never known a life without comps and cell phones, I don't know what to say. You will never know the simplicity of the art of just talking to someone without any distractions (yes, even total strangers in shops, restaurants, waiting in lines, etc...). There is a wealth of knowledge at your fingertips (which is a good thing) but it can have a negative affect on us as well.
Thanks for this thread! It made really ponder the question. It took me back in time in my mind and made me feel nostalgic.

Cell phones are technology created to solve problems created by technology. At least, in their current form.
I don't have a smartphone. I actually have the dumbest phone possible to have. People still continually message me on it and get mad if I forget to respond.

I think many people in this current generation experience that, I don't think everybody is always on their phones. I mean, there's gotta be some ying and yang in things they seem all right to me.

They would learn how to interact with other human beings and thus there weren't very many people who were afraid to talk to other people.
