let me run this by the pub (opinions on home situation)

ok, so this is how it happened.
i've never done this before, but here we go...
so i ate the second last steak. i admit i made a mistake in my families household. usually we have the steaks that we're going to have for dinner thawing in the fridge, three; and for the past few days i've been living on Ramen and well, those steaks. i ate a lone steak yesterday; and didn't check the freezer to see if we had enough frozen (ugh) steaks for the week. (LOL) (PS: which by the way, we have like packs of twenty stored in there at any time so, there is no way i could have "counted the days" LOL)
basically, i was eating the steaks that were in the fridge for two days, while we had day off of the steak. so there was one steak left, uneaten by me, and having not looked in the freezer, there was no way of knowing we were running low, considering usually we're stocked. now we just started this whole frozen steak routine, after we moved here, so this has never happened before.
is this something to make a big deal about, considering i usually get told to make-shift a meal and manage to eat something out of what little crud we have stocked, and do... barely eating the minimum of any substance, and basically do no harm to the contents of anyone's fridge, ever?
i mean, like if i abstain from even getting even close to eating anyone "out of house and home", can they really think it's such a big fucking hassle to de frost chicken instead? (like my mother told me i should have done; not knowing we were low on steak)
doesn't this sound retarded?
my step dad was getting all emotional over a steak (which had full rights to eat and is eating right now) and how "i always make a mistake, everyday" which is impossible, since i don't go out of my to make steps that lead to any calamity. (unless he was trying to make a point, like i should be in a master class of tradesmenship, like himself)
sounds like some kind of deterministic projection. let we wanted to fight me, from just trying to explain where i went wrong.

i know, because FOOD right? but i know i don't get all emotional over having no food, considering what we live on this household is the same redundent crap everyday, sometimes i just choose not to eat, and then get told i should fucking eat. after this scenario, i'm not so sure i give a flying fuck about eating. i mean, if food will make people rage out like that, if they don't it, then fuckign stuff yourself to the gills. (is what i really wanna say right now. )

yeah, thank you. it's like their single child is totally being shunned by now, because of a simple random confusion, and i don't ask for anything. not even simple family interaction. (i mean, even, since forever.)
i think my family might actually be partially retarded, and their lashing out.
but you know, i could be wrong, maybe this is just an innate human feature. see food gone, go bonkers, recall recent tragedies and revisit past (non existent) mistakes of your child being not good enough to drudge along with the dregs of society, because "me HUNGRY".
i mean, i could understand if they wanted me out of their life. it's so hard, sitting in front of the TV every night barely being able to situate a course of action other then what you've been doing for thirty years; i guess with the so far good track record, it was about time for someone to snap over lack of food. too bad it was the supposed "adults" of the family.
nice influences for their child from the crib to the casket.

Sounds like there might be more to it, but I don't know you're situation. If I expected a nice juicy steak for dinner, and someone ate it, I'd be pissed.
If I were in a situation where I had a deadbeat roommate that didn't contribute anything, and he/she ate my steak, I'd be even more pissed. Not saying that's you (since I obviously don't know), just saying there might be more to it than just eating steak.

I always make sure to leave enough food of a certain kind for my family, back when I used to live at home.
One time I got high as shit and ate my Dads entire box of breakfast cereal. Next morning he woke me up, told me I ate his cereal, and threw a $10 bill at my face and told me to pick up two more boxes.
Thats as intense as it ever got

you completely missed the point. dude. wut?
ok. i'll fetch. i couldn't tell we were out of steaks (there wasn't twenty steaks i said there is usually twenty steaks and then some) because usually i'll take one out of the fridge, that's already defrosted, because there always is one. (not to mention no one here is shy AT ALL [in fact it's encouraged! j/k but practically seems this way] about defrosting a steak in the microwave)
this wasn't me eating all the food, this was me eating a fairly reserved dinner one night, and forgetting to miscellaneously check the freezer to see if we were out of our usual twenty steaks.
i know i did this all the time, i'd have a reason to be concerned for my actions, but one fucking time having this happen? did you get apeshit at your chicks brother ever, after simply seeing ONE STEAK that expected to there gone; whilst having the last steak being prepared for you right then by your woman slave? oh and btw, my mom literally eats nothing. she can never be heard complaining about food, i might add, and will often turn down more food for less, because i dunno, she's dainty? she never complained, and even now, she wanted to know why... i came downstairs to tell her, and she changed her mind from wanting to listen to a reason why, and just handed my over to big brawling ape to be yelled at.
oh look, they're howling like monkeys over the TV right now. oh joy.

IMO the person who buys the groceries reserves the right to bitch about it But, since you have the most steak in your belly, you reserve the right to act smug- You seem cranky. You're probably hungry- have a steak! Oh wait.."
Really though, people just get really cranky about dinner. Especially if they've been looking forward to that dinner for a few days.
IMO you're both (slightly) in the wrong. You for not keeping track of your groceries (GREAT habit to have when you're on your own), And them for being crabby about it.
Another great lesson you can take from this whole thinng, Always have the means to cook a quick dinner in case your schedule were to change. For me, that's stir-fry. Turn the skillet to high, chop everything up, and you're eating 15 minutes after you started the stove.

When I was growing up I could eat anything in the fridge EXCEPT steaks and seafood. That's family dinner, not I'm a lazy degenerate eating ramen and steak lunch time. My dad would have kicked my ass for eating his steak unless I asked him beforehand. If I asked I could probably eat it as long as it wasn't allocated for dinner in the next few days (though then it would probably be in the freezer.) Just say sorry, it wasn't yours.

explain? what fucking rules? please. you know what you're talking about, right? so what rules again?
(i just hate the old adage, "welp it's their house their rules". maybe if they'd set some rules, i could understand this line of reasoning, but unbelieveably the don't. no offense Vinsue, i know you were just trying to help. )

unfortunately this isn't even a matter of family meals, and your degenerate comment is fucking backwards. you're a fucking degenerate, dude. you try and get everyone around you pissed off, on purpose. fuck off.

what? EDIT: oh, you want an answer. no, i don't have any money. so i don't pay for the good old Walmart steaks. i do however help around the house; as if that is supposed to entail that i should get a free meal, but never really thinking about it, because to think about it like that would be fucking moronic bullshit. but yeah... pretty much, like i said, deleterious human inanity. you think something is owed to you because you've provided for someone. are my parents fucked or is this absolutely something they should have done? and why. go!

Its probably more so about pecking order than anything, in his mind you weren't being respectful. I obviously don't know if that's the case, but its my opinion based on the limited amount of information I have. I would suggest trying to be proactive and not let it bother you, older people get set in a certain mindset that might not be driven by logic as much as old habits.

agreed completely. i wanna just drop it, because i'm over it now, but... i have to make some things clear here, make a better picture.
i've been told by my step dad to just do waht he does... he eats some bagel and cream cheese for dinner sometimes, and he's like "that's all i need".
i get told by mommy-kins that "just look in the fridge and find something, scrounge!"; so i do let i was taught, and what do i get for it? yelled at.
another thing, my mom tells me to just "take a steak out the freezer and defrost it, and no need to be picky"; and there wasn't a lack of steak in this case, for anyone. as you can see from the pic, there was two other steaks left in the fridge (enough for the whole family!1) and all she had to do was follow her own discourse. instead they had it in their minds to just get pissed at me.
me and my family have been through this before and I THOUGHT things had changed. they apparently haven't, because one little moment of disregard, over something as silly as leaving only one thawed steak in the fridge, sends them off the rails.
i know it's their home, and they're adults and lalala... doesn't mean you can act like a child and be right about it, just because it's YOUR STUFF. that's asinine. if i had ACTUALLY done something wrong, my attitude would be different.
in this case though, it wasn't like i did anything wrong... i just made a simple error in calculation. hell, it's not like they didn't check the freezer or fridge the day before, when i had nothing to eat but (what was it again?) noodles and... shit, i think that was it... for the whole day.

3 pages of complaints about someone complaining...no offense op but you need to start working towards getting your own place. It's not an insult but you're in a situation that causes you umecessary stress. By this point, you've focused on that one steak more than your parents.

you're right about that, but the steak is goddamn metaphor. it's really about how shiste my parents are at reserving their emotions over trivial things. i'm a helper. plus, so you know poster i've nevr noticed before, i rarely post threads, so don't complain about complaints about complaining in my one off thread of shit; it's not even usual for me. but other then that, thanks for your reply. i'm confident you're correct in your observation.Quote:

But these issues disappear when you get your own place....then you can eat all the steak you want! Unless your roomate sucks...but that's another story. May I ask how old you are? Your rents could be getting a little anxious that you're still in the nest. Even some of the coolest rents I know are always a little anxious about their kids being able to provide for themselves.

well, if that was the case, they surely didn't make that very clear.
i don't buy the whole "provide for yourself scaredom", if i can get a job and make some money, i can find some place to live. it's not like any of my parents are parent of the year or anything, you know... they can't expect me to just up and head out into the world and hustle major bank and a stupendous job, with location location location on my mind, when i couldn't even get good grades in school. so they shouldn't even worry. really what it is is they're conditioned to think that they "need to worry" and since i've told them many times over how they shouldn't, they are seemingly finding less and less reason to have THAT be the reason. i haven't heard any "provide for" disclaimers for a long while now. perhaps they just hate me being there, but it's not like i'm taking up much space or food. ok, i could help with paying rent... but not by much though, considering we just moved to new house and i couldn't make a dent in the mortgage; so that's like their job. pay for food, maybe? sure, but i abstain from eating too much of their food, and really alot more food ends up being wasted in this house then ends up being eaten by me, and that's THEIR FAULT. hell, if i had the grocery plan, i could make straight ahead, scrumptious meals for less then they probably spend on their packs of steaks. (but then again, i supposed i'd have to proof that to them.)
i actually don't do anything in their home but maybe hang in my room, listen to music, and use the internet. i should pay for my internet? well, ok, i'll pay a made-up fee, to the extent that I use the internet for... sure, that sounds sensible.
none of this has been made any mention, though. it's just this one off event for now, long time coming, from being cool with them for so long, so far. until yesterday.

B: i never complained to him or my mother. i was asked by my mom why i didn't just defrost a chicken breast instead; and when i tried to give her the reason (because we're usually stocked on steaks, and still was; and i didn't thaw more steaks when i ate them, and my mom usually doesn't even get requested to thaw the steaks, she just thaws them quickly in the microwave, get it?) my step-dad threw into a rage about telling me to be quiet and how "what if i wanted to eat a steak with your mom" which he still could have; if my mom would have just thawed a steak in the microwave in 3 minutes like normally.
seriously, your reasoning holds no water, yet. so can you explain to me, how i A: ate some food that he was expecting to be there and B: instead of understanding why he is upset, complained?
can you really? or are you just spouting off?
PS: i do cleaning, floors, windows, and dishes, and my laundry. sometimes cook for my lovely fam-jams. what else should i do?

It's all about the attitude. You seem a little too defensive about things. It seems like you feel a little entitlement to be cared for. I'm guessing you're close to 20 years old. Your parents are probably worried about you being "a productive member of society"...it's all bs but you still need to have survival skills. What would you do if they died? Would you starve?
I think that's where your rents are coming from. Maybe you should find a job. Start saving money for a car or getting your own place, or chipping in with some expenses. You might be able to ease the vibe by showing them that you are taking steps in the 'right' direction. I'm going through a similar situation and that's how I'm solving the problem.

That's a start dude. I got a job as a busser at a restaurant and i make surprisingly okay money. I'm about to get another job at a different restaurant, and soon I'll probably try to find a roomate and get an apartment after that. It's a long progression but it's a liberating feeling so far. Imagine not living with all the bs from your rents...it's probably life changing dude. What does everyone else think?

shitty retort. i already posted in this thread a few times and told you personally, that it was a misconception about the how many steaks were left. there wasn't a "second last" anything, there was one thawed steak in the fridge, and two steaks (i didn't even know about) in the freezer.
do you understand yet, what you're misunderstanding in your argument now?

Jerk off onto their pillows, or jerk off onto the food you cook after you are done eating it and put it back in the fridge.

I didn't read all the comments in this thread, but I'm still stuck on the amount of steak that you/your family eats. Like wtf man, you usually always keep 20 steaks on hand at all times?
Forget the heart attacks, your stepdad is gonna end up with gout eating all that red meat.
I think he over-reacted, but still, I would be pretty pissed if I had food in the fridge all day waiting for me, then when I went to eat it it was gone. I think maybe you should just ask first next time.

yeah, but he's also got like a big heart too, believe me, thinking about it now, i feel rather spineless. his only fault in this case, was being over emotional and not being able to express himself without getting upset. (which in turn got me upset; with me only furthering the cycle of desperation) like fapjack said, it sucks being old. i should have more respect.
just to be clear. i think my parents can be incredible ridiculous sometimes, but they are nice people, i just wish i could talk to them sensibly when they get upset; it just seems impossible.
consider the off-set between how much of what one doesn't like about another, one will stand to take when the other is family, and when they're not.
i consider my step-dad family, even though there is always a slight disconnect. i lose touch with how i feel about him as my dad, and sometimes give a horrible impression of him.
people can be damn stupid. i am further proof.
