Pine tree branch to the eye!
    #18864019 - 09/19/13 05:23 PM (10 years, 4 months ago)

Yesterday I was hunting and using a heavy stick I carry with me to move a pine branch out of my way so I could grab a mushroom. The branch slipped off the stick and a pine needle got me right in the cornea! I read its common and will heal fine in a couple days to a week with proper care. So I roughed it last night and couldnt sleep much. the stress mustve caused a bad headache and fever. I woke after 3 hrs of sleep to find my eye swolen shut. I went and bought some eye cleaning solution and ibuprofen. Its getting better so im glad.
Why am I telling yall this? I dunno I guess I dont have enough friends lol. No Im just not finding anything worth a damn in the woods and got post cabin fever teehee:mushroom2:

Damn dude that's rough lol...I always wear my "lucky" hat...been wondering lately if its just a plain ole hat lol... I've had that happen a couple times...was dumb enough to wear my good rx glasses that fade to sun glasses outside and caught a branch to the face the exact same way you caught it...scratched the hell outta them, hardly wear em anymore after that

You could even make the mushroom shaped! Then when property owners and others ask what your doing you can slide them down a bit and say what do u think im doing?

my dad has suck a knack for getting shit in his eye. his whole life hes gone to the e.r. for eye related pokings. branches, nails, glass, sand, fingers, corners, splinters etc. so whenever he would want me to work with him on a project or in the yard he would beg me to wear safety goggles (which he now wheres even when doing the most trivial of tasks) which i of course refused cos that shit is for squares (wrong!).  anyways, now he has some really nice prescription safety goggles that dont even fog up. theyre pretty legit.

In the face, it belongs here more than anywhere else, its just the "Illnesses from mushroom hunting thread" i once racked myself on a sharp boulder, like a big triangular one, i fell looking for a russula that was near it. i thought it was a lobster.. it wasnt... my balls died that day. they were reincarnated though so its cool. but man it was bad, my buddies were laughing for days.... Another one of my City fold friends was taking a dump in the woods... hes from Boston, but lets just say he wiped with a big soft nettle leaf, where all the flowers were still attached oh man, im glad i was away, but im bummed i didnt prevent it, we just went home at that point. lol I also tend to walk on logs and test them for strength, at which point they break, and i faceplant. just ask Ganzig...:facepalm3:

Oh and get better!

Forgive my "city-folk" ignorance but nettles?? What are those? Sorry...the "woods" are still very very new to me... woods before I moved to GA were the medians at the mall and the eight palm trees at school we would hide behind during lunch

TY JOust and crazy stories. I liked reading it. That poor guy and the nettles ouch! The faceplanting into the banks Ive done this too lol testing the strength. I would then think that I would have been better off just going for it lol less weight in one place. Your dad wearin the goggles for easy tasks is a good example of wisdom! You crushin your balls.... Sux when that happens!!! Its bad enough when you find out what you were thinking it was wasnt what you thought it would be, then you fall or get hurt or both and thats when I think....(when it happens to me) Shoulda stayed home today...damn my curiosity!!! Also I lmao when I read that you said "my balls died that day."

TY all for the stories and advice!:mushroom2:

nettles are a plant which causes nice stinging bumbs when you touch it, it stings instantly and pretty intesely when you get it a lot, lasts for about a day, you dont need any treatments.

We have something similar here Im sure. Ive run into something that stung the shit out of me before and it was like there was tiny needles that had to push their way out. I used to be allergic to everything when I was a child. then I spent years playing in the woods and may have developed an immunity to some plants. Like I havent caught poison ivy bad in a long time, but If I pine needles touch my bare skin I itchy like crazy even an hr after washing! I stepped on quite a bit of those spikey needle like plants commonly found in yards and fields too. ouch. When I was in california (high desert area) the locals spoke of a jumping cactus. (prickly pear) they say it actually seems to jump and stick you. most times right to the bone! Some ladowners plant them along their property lines to deter thieves and ATVers. Not to menton spike strips and barbed wire. Anyway I found that the jaggers here in ohio do the same thing. Ive learned to spin out of them slowly but when they drag through you... They arent to be taken lightly lol. Caught them to the face before not wearing a helmet. I would hate to have one drag thru my eye! sheesh!:mushroom2:
