green spot on treatment without total loss
    #18862712 - 09/19/13 11:54 AM (10 years, 4 months ago)

This is not my first battle with trich, so I know it's probably a lost cause. I have 4 big trays that went into fc yesterday. They were crumbled jars with 60/40 verm/coir. I pasteurized it in the oven (which was my only option) for hours on 170. Everything looked perfect at 10 days. Casing 95-100% colonized. Put them into fc and 1 day later and I have 2 trays with a small green spot. Is there anything I can do? I have tried the hot knife and salt thing previously, but shrooms were overtaken by trich in a couple days. (That tray was buried and still hoping for a mushroom to pop through) The temp outside is down to the 50's at night. what is the lowest night temp for fc? day time its in the 70's. Outside is not an option for these. Please give me a remedy.Even if its high maintenance. I will babysit the hell out of them until they fruit. Thanks

Sweet. i'll try anything to avoid a total loss. i was thinking i'd cut a huge part around the spot and fill it in w/ clean verm on 1 tray. what do you think about that approach? Im gonna try the wax on the other and let you know. thanks

i know how you feel man but its not recommended to cut out the green mold! because that will result is mass spreading of the spores you dont want, it will mess up your future grows for that area so i wouldn't advise it

As has been known for many years, attempting to cut out green molds will result in even more contamination.  What new growers fail to realize is that the green they see is only the spores that are being released.  The trichoderma mycelium is white and may permeate the entire substrate.  There is no cutting it out.

Some strains of trichoderma are sunlight sensitive, while others are not.  All spores are sunlight sensitive, so placing spores outside in the sunlight will bleach them, making it appear the sun has 'killed' the green mold, when in fact it hasn't.

Using bleach or peroxide to kill green mold is a waste of time.  There is nothing that will kill molds and leave your mushroom mycelium alive.

The key is to follow sterile procedures at every step of the way, and if/when green molds are spotted, the substrate must be removed at once and placed outside.  Many mold infested projects will recover and fruit if placed into soil in a shady spot.

There is no way to get rid of Trich once you have it. Trich Myc and Mushroom Myc are both white, making it impossible to really determine where Trich ends and Mushroom begins. Keep in mind cutting your substrate only weakens it. Trich consumes Mushroom Myc, as it is a fungicide.

Once Trich shows it's head, there isn't much you can do besides chuck it or bury it.

I guarantee salt would slow the growth more than wax would. Also realize that even if the visible mold is covered it could still be releasing a relatively large amount of spores into the environment there.

i took your advise and got them out of my house asap. buried then in my buddies back yard and topped w/ some peat. we'll see. it's not good temp at night here for them low 50's, but mid 70's day. i did manage to get the con tam's away from everything else fast, so even the bin with 2 trays(1 beginning stage of contam...fanned together!) 1 remained healthy...knock on wood. I give lots of FAE to avoid further green, while keeping RH straight.got a hepa which is really helping with innocs and making LC's. thanks for the advise i didnt want to take, but did because I knew you would probably be the reason I'd save the rest of my crops. your schooling rocks. I appreciate the help a bunch & will return the good karma by helping those i can when i got it dwn like you. a master at his craft. gotta love it:)
