knox instead of agar?

i have a lot of knox gelatin on hand most of the time. would it be a suitable substitute  for agar?

No,  gelatin is a liquid at room temperature.

Agar agar is extremely cheap as well,  look at Asian markets for telephone brand agar packets,  they are in a white packet with blue writing and a gold phone

that depends how much h2o you use. i have mixed it to be almost rock hard when cool.

The melting point of gelatin is 35c, either way,  as it's consumed it will melt,  agar won't.

I edited my post above for a cheap source of agar agar

If you get gelatin to work instead of agar, please post your findings, because I am curious if it will work as well. Nowhere near me sells agar in a package like that (And yes I looked at the Asian grocery, they only had agar with sugar as the first ingredient - which is rather prone to contamination)
