I meant to post this last night, in hopes of getting tips from anyone who does phlebotomy. I'm about to go in for a full work day of nothing but phlebotomy. I am soooo sick to my stomach I just want to go back to the Microbiology lab. I'll probably have to go back another day, I have to get 100 sticks. Anyone have any tips?
I don't wanna! I don't wanna!

Get a different job then...?
I assume you have a degree in microbiology/biochemistry/yadda yadda yadda.
You don't have to work in a lab. Think of all of the huge biotech companies that sell products. Who is selling the product? Who is on the end of the phone line when a researcher calls in because they need some help troubleshooting a piece of equipment, use of a chemical, or use of an enzyme?
It's not some dipshit with a business degree. It's someone with a microbiology/biochemisty/yadda yadda yadda degree.
All of those big companies want someone who understands how the product works and what makes the product better than a competing product to get researchers to buy/use the product; otherwise they wouldn't be able to sell the product to someone who actually knows what it does. The researcher would end up with some incompetent fool on the other end of the phone line and say, "Fuck this. I'll just buy it from -insert other company-."
You can get some pretty nice jobs with a degree that initially makes it seem like your life is destined to be chained to a bench... you don't ever have to come close to a single person, needle, petri dish, or whatever.
All of the huge biotech/medical/chemical companies need more than just bench bitches for R&D/production, and they like those people to know stuff about the products. And these jobs often aren't hard to find because 90% of people with degrees relevant to the biotech industry think they are destined to work in a lab... and that just isn't the case.
Hell, you can probably get a job as a straight-up chemist if you have a biochemistry degree. There is so much overlap between the two fields that chemical manufacturing companies will take in biochemists with open arms. You won't be taking blood samples there.
You gotta diversify your job searches, nigga.

I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal phlebotomy...

Funny thing about . Back when I was using, I could shoot left or right handed, never needed to tie off because I have very prominent veins. I'd shoot coke in the back seat of a moving car. These days I practically faint when blood is drawn at the hospital. I fuckin' hate needles... . . .

I'm actually a Lab Tech, and at bigger hospitals you don't HAVE to draw. They just want you to know how. I'm supposed to do 100...I was in the outpatient lab for 5 hours today. ONE dude came through and I fucking drew his blood like a champ! But that was just one, and he had a big, beautiful vein.

Yeah man, as I was driving to the hospital I just tried not to think about and just kept telling myself that "At least I care. I care if I hurt them and I want to do a good job" I feel like if I at least come in with that attitude, then it can't go too bad.

Yeah, I've thought about eventually moving on to something like that or research, even. Right now, I actually enjoy the lab. I like reading the plates and doing testing on specimens. Once I get these 100 sticks in, I won't have to fool with phlebotomy again.
