only one mycelium ring in my jar, will it still fruit?
    #18860184 - 09/18/13 08:28 PM (10 years, 4 months ago)

Greeting all.  I am on my first attempt at growing and I am using BRF TEK.  A few weeks ago when my syringes arrived I was not home and it was way to hot outside for the little guys and most did not survive(I did not find that out until 9 of my jars did absolutely nothing).  One jar is looking good with about 75% colonization.  I have 2 other jars that have growth but each jar has only 1 mycelium ring even though I inoculated in the 4 places.  The rings are about 3 inches in diameter.  If I let them full colonize will they fruit.  I was under the assumption they will not.  Can I use them to inoculate 3 qt jars of grain adding mycelium from both jars into the grain jars?  Any other thoughts or advice would be helpful.  Thanks for all the info.

They will fruit.  It will take longer to colonize but once they do you will just let them consolidate and fruit like normal.

I've never heard of BRF to grain, and probably wouldn't try it, but you could fruit them and watch this thread to see if it works for him and try it out.

As far as I am aware, the spores will be fine in temperatures over 100 degrees Fahrenheit, so unless you live in a desert, you shouldn't have had a problem with your spores not surviving. Aside from that, you definitely want the jars to be fully colonized before putting into fruiting, but they should be fine, just might take a bit longer. Just make sure to keep your eyes out for any signs of possible contamination.
