The mycelium is a beautiful brilliant white and really colonizing well right now though, so I really hope they fruit well. 10g from 12 cakes is a little worrying though, I have 8 cakes, but only 5 of them have growth right now....
You've got me scared now!
Off topic, how do I inocculate with cloned material? My plan was to use the cardboard tek to clone from flesh, and I'm also searching for a tek on isolates, but that might be something for far off in the future. Anyway, do I just break the mycelium up and put it in a syringe, or is there a more complicated/simple process for this? (question for any knowing eyes)
Dont be scared! I got over 10 grams dry just from 4 mushies I picked yesrerday. Granted theyre only 90% dry but still! Yay!

Also that set of gills extended off the top of the cap looks like either a mutation or (possibly?) an injury. Wont hurt you to eat mutants though, or you can even clone the little guys and spawn yourself a whole freak show!
Hahah! Sounds like fun...circus shrooms. These are the only ones looking mutated...the rest look exactly like all pics of healthy Pink Buffalos. Interesting though. Thats why we love mycology.

Yeah dude I wouldn't be worried about mutants too much, as far as I read they wont hurt you, unless the mutation is caused by some crazy contamination, then it could not be so great. A more experienced person should confirm/deny this.
And the wavy, inverted cap is just something that happens as they grow older, nothing to be worried about.

Came home to this, so I'm stoked:

Thanks for all the help! I'll probably have a thousand more questions though, knowledge is power!!

The caps growing upward is completely normal when you let it mature a little more. Some wouldn't let it go that far, some pick them when the veil just breaks, or when they look like a Popsicle right before the veil tears.
At one point i came back to my monotub after letting a sitter watch it. Well it looked like the sitter was out of town too because all my mushies were so huge and all the caps have lifted themselves in an upward motion while spraying spores everywhere. By the looks of your picture, you did let them grow past the point of sporing on a small vicinity it looks. So it's expected for those to mature even more.

Damn, I just dried them and ended up with a little over 2 oz dry on my first flush. I've never done multiple flushes before. I dunked my cakes, re-rolled in verm, washed my FC and placed the cakes in there again. Is this all I have to do??

2oz on your first flush??? How many cakes? Now you've got me excited and worried :p
Edit: And now I'm very worried... just got home and I think 4 jars are contam'd.... meaning I'm left with 1 if I'm right... Man, and they're all at 75% or above!
What do I do? Isolate my 1 jar and hope for the best from the other 4?

I got over 2 oz dry on 10 cakes overall. I'm down to 9 now though.
Do you have a camera? Post some pics of the jars you think are contaminated on here, the community here helps a LOT.
I would isolate the one that looks best.

Alright so if you got 2oz on 10, I should be hoping for 1oz on 5.. at least maybe in theory. :P Maybe I'll luck out and they'll be super shrooms!
Well the jars I'm concerned about are really hard to tell because A) the potential contam is on the bottom ring, where the glass is thick, bent, and super distorted, making it extremely difficult to judge and impossible to take a picture. It's a slight redish color, the same color of burnt flower and literally EVERY cracked jar I have has it to some extent, but they've all had it since sterilization because they are in fact slightly burnt. B) All of the jars that I thought were contam'd last night, seem to be looking pretty healthy and have grown over the unhealthy looking spots with no difficulty and no discoloration. Just as well, mycelium is growing out from behind the substrate and towards the glass in uncolonized areas, and it's very rhizomorphic and thick leading me to believe that the center of the cake is healthy, as if it were over run by contams I don't think the mycelium would be able to make it from one side, through the center of the cake, and out the other side.
Also as a further suggestion that they are not in fact contaminated (and I've been thinking it's bacterial) I had one jar that did actually contaminate (never colonized after 3 weeks), and the smell.. oh my god the smell.... The only smell that I (might) be able to smell from the rest of my jars, is an earthy smell that I don't recognize, but it's pleasant and almost welcoming, which leads me to believe that my cakes are not in fact housing unwanted guests.
This hobby is harder than I thought, cause if I screw up and these jars are contam'd, I'm either out several weeks of effort, or I get some poisonous shrooms.
Edit: This is also the first time in 2 or 3 months that I've been sober for longer than 12 hours, so I'm feeling a little funny and everything isn't quite right for me at the moment. As I get used to being sober over the next few days I'm sure my judgement on this will get a little better.

Katu: any updates? If theyre almost colonized I would birth them and see what happens. I was was worried about contams too...but I birthed early and luckily the mycleium won. Let me know updates though!!!
I got a questiom for anyone still following this thread: I dunked and (mistakingly) rolled for my second flush...its been 8 days since I I placed in fruitong chamber and nothings happening. Ive read sometimes 2nd flushes can take up to 14 days...anyone with experience on this??

4 jars at 100% and 1 lagging behind at 95%. Right now everything is looking very healthy, not seeing any discolorations or anything that looks worrying. I think they were just fucking with me, being like "Oh hay look, our grower dude is sooooo blazed, lets fuck wit him". I mean, if mushrooms could do that anyway....
