Azurescens Fruiting Questions

I've got a small but beautiful outdoor azurescens bed with mycelium as dense as a any PF cake. RR has said his azurescens beds don't usually fruit the first year. This bed, however, is so dense I think I have a chance. My only worry is that what began as about a six to seven inch thick bed is now only about four to five inches thick. But instead of fluffy wood chips, it's truly a "dense and tenacious mycelial mat." It's screaming to fruit.
So assuming it fruits, what's the best way to pick them? If I dig 'em out with the dense base of the fruits will I ruin my chance for another flush? And speaking of second flushes -- I gather that I should drown my bed after each flush to encourage another one?
I had a good outdoor cube bed this year but it had only one flush. I found much of the mass of the 'shrooms I picked were at the base -- something I would've missed if I had cut them off with a knife. I don't know if this screwed things up. I also got started late in the season and let the 'shrooms drop spores, so that may have had something to do with it.
Anyways, I want to get the most out of my azurescens. Anybody have any tricks, tips or good advice for me?

There's a huge difference between cubes and azures. Azurescens mycelium will survive winter and they are wood lovers so they do not need the same "food" as cubes. You should pick azures like any other mushroom.
You shouldn't water the bed for a second flush. Only keep it moist through summer.

Perhaps you can reinforce your beds using this tek. It's worth a try.

Just note, the hardiness map they have linked to in that post is not correct anymore.

That is the new zone map.
