About to begin - a few more questions (PICTURE)

Hello!
I am very excited, as I am about to begin cultivating mushrooms (psilocybe cubensis, in particular)
Below is a picture of all the materials I have purchased. I already have a pressure canner, which is not in the pic. In the pic, I have perlite, vermiculite, brown rice flour, half-pint jars (8oz), cleaning gloves, and a plastic fruiting chamber. But I have a question, I read on the guide on this site that the bottom of the container should hold water, and the container should be airtight. But on "Lets grow mushrooms", holes are drilled every 2" (If im not mistaken). So which should I do?
Can I go ahead and prepare and sterilize the jars, even though I have not yet obtained the syringes? How long will the un-inoculated jars last?
And, I need to know of one more gourmet\edible or medicinal mushroom species I can grow easily on BRF cakes and fruit in the same fruiting chamber as cubensis. Thank you all so much!

Don't sterilize the jars until your syringes come, also, if you're able to, I would bring those jars back and try to get the wide-mouth versions. Tall half-pints are prone to stalling.
Also, the only guide you should be following for creating a Shotgun Fruiting Chamber is the "Let's Grow Mushrooms" version. It is not supposed to hold water, it is supposed to hold wet perlite.
You're going to want to rinse that perlite well, I think Miracle Gro perlite has nutrients on it which can harbor contamination.

Thanks for the reply! Unfortunatly, Im unable to return the jars. And its all i could find. Do most of them stall if the jars are tall, or just every once in a while?

Not all of them stall, make sure you do not pack the substrate at all for best chance of success, especially if your vermiculite is fine.

Don't start the sterilization yet. Theoretically once sterilized you should be able to leave them without contams, but don't take any risks and just follow the TEK.
Some more things to make sure you get before you start - lighter to flame sterilize your syringe needle, and make a glove box if you haven't done so already.
Good luck!

Can I use any lighter? Like the little lighters used to light cigarattes and such? And as for the glove box, I only need to use it during inoculation, right? And not while preparing the substrate? One more question, would you recomend using 70% iso. Alcohol to sanitize the glove box, gloves and work area?

If it can get a needle red hot, it will work.

Those are awesome jars, taller sides, means more side pinning during evaporation.

Now I have just one last thing id like to know before I begin, and that is what species of edible mushroom can grow on BRF cakes besides psilocybe cubensis.

I would suggest a larger fruiting chamber. Looks small in the pic.
Have fun!

You should rephrase the question. No one here know's anything about tripping' shrooms. Maybe you miss understood this site.
I know there are some forms of oysters that can grow on sawdust. Let's concentrate the subject on what types of mushrooms you would like to learn how to grow, and people can point you in the right direction.

ok thanks! Is it because it is not tall enough? It is 7" tall, if im not mistaken. I realize its on the smaller side when it comes to width. If I absolutely cant use this chamber, would this chamber be suitable for the glove box? i have both a glass aquarium and a camping cooler, are they less desirable than plastic containers, and are they more difficult to work with ?

I would say its all around too small. Wont be able to fit five inches ofnperlite in there. I would also say you won't be able to fit all your cakes.
Pass on the aquarium and cooler. You wanna build a shotgun fruiting chamber for optimum fruiting conditions. Just get a bigger sterilite and drill quarter inch holes spaced two inched apart on all six sides.

What size would you recomend? I have much bigger ones, but they are solid. I didnt want to get one too big , because of humidity. Can you use a solid tub? Maybe i could wrap the top with plastic instead of a lid

If you aren't using all twelve then just get a taller one.
go to youtube and watch the let's grow mushrooms part 3 video. It will walk you through building a sgfc.

You want enough room for 4-5 inches of perlite, plus the height of your cakes, plus another 6-7 inches minimum for mushroom growth.
