the worst part about the guilt/fear is that it's self-induced. either it's a regret about the past which causes you to feel sorry for yourself, or a worry someone judging you in the future (so you feel guilty and change who you are/want to be).

i think alot of this comes from how we are raised. like parents teaching you absolute right and wrong and making you feel ashamed for "acting a certain way" or something. so we hold onto that stuff subconsciously as we grow up instead of letting it go.

Guilt isn't all bad. It can highlight aspects of oneself that need attention. Say you feel guilty over something you've done... your guilt could be out-of-proportion and you just need to apologize for losing your cool or whatever, but it could also enlighten one to deep behavioral issues that will keep ruining the emotional landscape if not managed.

If guilt is one side of a coin, the other side is forgiveness.
