Need help identifying Muscaria in central Alabama. NO PIX. No actual mushroom.

Hi everyone,

I haven't found any yet but, have been reading about them as much as I can.  Unfortunately, for me anyway, I'm having trouble finding solid information on just what they look like in Alabama.

Everyone says that they are unmistakable in other parts of the country and world, having a deep red cap with white warts, bright white stem, etc...

I have read that in Alabama/Deep South, they have orange or yellow caps with lighter yellow warts. If this is so, do the dark red capped ones simply not exist this far south?

Is the stem still a bright white down here?  I wish there was a photo that someone knew of that they could direct me to of an "Alabama Muscaria."  Of course, I mean just what they look like down here, I realize that's not the real name.

Thanks for any help and sorry for the rambling.

Altie

In the south you have Amanita muscaria var. persicina, which has more of a peach colored cap.

You also have the probably edible lookalikes A. frostiana and A. parcivolvata.

Thank you, Alan.  That helps a lot and I saved that page to reference later.
