Amanita species.

Almost certainly Amanita muscaria.  There are no other Amanita species in Idaho with a cap like that.

The annulus is missing and the base of the stem is not visible, however those important identifying features are not needed in this case....

Just about 100%.  I can't imagine what else it could be.  Too red for A. gemmata or A. pantherina.  And outside of Amanita section Amanita, the universal veil does not break up into spots like that.

More pictures of more fruit bodies in more stages of development.    Or take photos of the spores with a microscope, and check with iodine to see if the spores are amyloid.

I believe that all of the deadly Amanitas have amyloid spores, and that A. muscaria does not.

But really there is no reason to do that.  Despite the photo quality, there really are no other Amanita species in Idaho with pink caps and widely distributed spots.

Fry it in butter until it turns light brown, and add a tiny bit of salt and pepper.  Only eat a couple bites.  If you eat more than 2 bites you might puke or get somewhat drunk.

Don't listen to MrMagicMusrhoom. He is right that you won't die
but one quarter of the cap will taste good and maybe give you the shits.

And the stem contains active chemicals as well.

Look at the number of posts a person has on the site compared to the amount
of mushrooms their status has.

It is not 100% but normally you should not take advice from someone who has not
been here too long.

Amanita muscaria tastes great BTW.

Sorry dudes. I must be in a mood. I am sorry for calling you out like that.

My bad.

The bad ratings MMM has have nothing to do with MH&I. But MMM you are wrong
about the stem.

But again. My bad. I can be a dick sometimes.

Nothing, it will just taste good.  That is why you eat 2 bites and not 6.

I usually eat around 4 bites, and the effect is very similar to drinking 2 beers.  With some additional sleepiness thrown in.

Quote:

ithernet said:

I know one hippie that eats it raw, and he says it works just fine that way.  But really, it tastes a whole lot better fried in butter.  Really a delicious muishroom due to the glutamic acid, a natural form of MSG.

Cool, glad you liked it.  Try a little bit more next time, but don't go crazy and eat a whole lot.  I have never heard of anyone getting the runs from A. muscaria, in the experience of the friends I have fed it to, 2 in 5 throw up.  I tell them beforehand that they will probably puke, so when they do they don't get mad at me.

A. muscaria is the correct spelling. Not muscular.

And yes they do. I saw a photo slide show at a Mycological society meeting here
where I live and the mycologist had some shots of a raven eating
the gills of an A. muscaria.

http://

could anyone identify these for me? I'm new to all this. found in Tasmania, Australia, on a grassy patch on the side of the road, there has been lots of rain for the past few days but quite humid as well. I'm not really expecting them to be psychoactive but look quite similar to and the spore sprint was brown, looks like a golden top, gills are sinuate, cap is convex, no ring and go brown when bruised
