Where would you go?

If you were to just pick up and move (as an early-mid 20 year old), without any debt or responsibilities holding you back, which (US) city would you choose to go to? With an associates degree in your pocket, 15-20K saved up, and a decent job resume (for being young) which city appeals to you most? Rent-wise, job-wise, public transportation, nightlife, etc..

I've heard one of the Dakotas is bristling with jobs and that minimum wage is around 10-something an hour.
That said, Oregon or Cali, and not just cause I'm an on-off stoner.

Oregon, place was fucking beautiful. My visit there last summer was one of the happiest times I have ever been in my life! No snow, mushrooms grow wild, weed is not that big of a deal. People were chill as fuck. I can drive a motorcycle year round.

I plan on moving to one of the dakota's soon and I's HIGHLY advise against it, very harsh drug laws and they just really aren't that great of states.
I would go to either Denver, or Boulder.

North Dakota is booming right now because of the oil fields. I guess places like Mcdonalds are hiring with starting pay over $15 an hour. I wouldnt pursue that though because the cost of living is outrageous now. I have a buddy who works in the oil fields and he said 1 bedroom apartments in some areas are $2000 a month

Thanks for correcting me; major considerations I didn't know about.
Why you goin' there bud?
And man why didn't I think of Colo? They have the lowest population of overweight people AND legalized weed (and come to think of it, I wonder how that combo is going for them... /munchies lol).Quote:

Thank you, too, for the correction and more-helpful input for OP... sounds dreary at best now.

Hmm I briefly thought about North Dakota, anyone else have any say of that state? Would an inexperienced person get a job in the oil fields? ...Didn't realize rent was that nuts though.
Are there jobs in the city of denver itself though? Or would you need a car to drive to them? Do you need a car at all in denver, from what I've read it seems like a yes.

IDK what your job history is like, but I ended up in office jobs from a very young age and now that I'm working at McDonalds, I don't know how I feel about hard work anymore...
Any interest in MO? We could trade.

I have a good work ethic when it comes to manual labor.
hmm, seattle seems pretty legit, but idk if I would be able to handle all that grey. The rain is fine, but people seem to always talk of how grey it is. Beautiful, but dark.

Dude mad fucking respect. I kind of enjoy it myself, but after 2 hours of scrubbing viscous fat deposits from warmer trays, I sometimes long for the days of being a programmer lol.
It's my own fault I didn't simply step up to something more in line with my interests though, and I start something like that in October.
A friend of mine JUST MOVED to Seattle TODAY!!! Which reminds me how awesome it is. My best friend may be there next semester too.
IDK about you but I love... shall we say, somber weather?

i live right next to north dakota and by brother lives there, so I plan on moving in with him soon to save up some money to move to colorado.
North Dakota does have a lot of job opporunities especially with the oil fields, but other than that it's a pretty shitty place to live. Not much to do or see, and the winters are abosolutely horrible. Think -40 degree weather, being outside for more than 20 minutes causing a high risk of getting frostbite. Shits rediculous.

Denver (and CO) in general are at the top of my list right now, but I would want to live close to or in the heart of it all (downtown or capitol hill)...but then for work, it seems like I'd need a car. Which I could drop a few thousand on for a used one when I'm out there if I need to, but I'd rather have that cash in the bank.

It's incredibly vibrant. I get why people dislike big cities but I'm not one of them. I like a big mega-metropolis which is what Chicago is. Transportation is incredible; just walk down from your apartment and hit the subway. Idk man, I made my way through there about 10 years ago and had no idea how cool Chicago was. I thought it was just another city until I actually got to it.
Then I realized it was definitely not your run of the mill, average American city.

Portland area is nice and relatively cheap compared to other metro areas I've lived in. Atlanta is full of opportunities, culture, and entertainment. It's rather pricy, however. I paid $1200 a month for a 2br in a decent area.
What is your degree in and what does your resume look like?
