Why Does Time Slow Down?

Hey guys,
I know there isn't a right or definite answer to this question, but I was hoping to get some theories or explanations from you.
Also, a very interesting thought that keeps coming to mind, is references to time in the Bible and Quran, where one day on earth equals to a thousand in heaven. The point in this point is it has been argued that the 'prophets' and the times/locations they witnessed 'miracles', there were also psychedelic plants growing and consumed in these areas. I read it in a book called Supernatural, and the reference was precisely made to Moses and the burning bush. I am not saying I believe this theory, but I acknowledge that it might have some truth to it. I'm just pointing it out because, in that case, maybe the 1 day equaling a 1000 in 'heaven' does have to do with these plants...
Anyways, any theories or explanations as to why time slows down? Is it because we think more (the flood of thoughts that happen when tripping) in the same units of time which we usually think less in when sober and, hence, the relation between thoughts/minute make it seem that time has slowed down because a lot more has happened?
-------------------- For years on end I have been sitting here, impatiently awaiting potency: some explosive revelatory surge that will carry me away and permit no looking back. But this moment of deliverance has not arrived, and I have done nothing to hasten it. Perhaps it doesn’t matter. Perhaps I wasn’t meant to do anything. In which case, I have succeeded admirably.

I don't know your answer but I think Christianity and most religions in general were based upon psychedelic consumption a, I think it's a modern trend to hate what I believe is probably the foundation of religions. Anyways, I believe the time dilation is based on the fact that you're realizing that time is of the earth and that in space there is no time and that in essence we and everything else is all just timeless.

Time does not slow down, merely your perception of time changes.

I think this video can explain it.
http://sciencestage.com/v/952/free-fall-experiment-time-perception.html
So the mind operates at more frames per second when you have adrenaline pumping. It wouldn't surprise me if that is why time slows down. Consider your pupil dilation when tripping, which is a fight or flight response.

Time slows down because your brain speeds up. If you've tried to watch a clock during the peak you'll see it directly - thousands of thoughts and maybe it's ten seconds later. 10 minutes is a lifetime.

Time is an illusion. It only applies to this reality, this 3 dimensional construct. Does it slow down or was it never there to begin with? If anything, time is actually slowed down when we are sober, and when we are tripping we are experiencing true space/time, which is infinity. That's just my theory though.

There's also theories regarding novelty. Such as in situations with many new sensations and experiences, more 'data' is recorded per time frame, so time seems to stretch out (go slower.) This helps explain why time seems to speed up as we get older. When young, everything is new, but as we age and settle into a routine, there's very little new experience outside the scope of our usual experience, so less information is recorded per time frame, and so time seems to be going faster.

what do you mean there is no time on space? i understand time is a man-made thing, but how is there no time in space?

This!
In hyperspace for example one will vividly experience this phenomenon for himself, and if you happen to be shiting yourself with terror at the time it can be just about excruciating!
One part of the brain is moving at light speed experiencing just about everything condensed and crammed into mere split seconds of time, whilst the other is trapped within normal time and consciousness, thinking FOR GOD-SAKE HURRY UP!

Your perception of time is dependant upon the amount of information that gets into your conscious mind (and is not censored out). Psychedelics reduce or even stop that censoring and thus your perception of time changes as well. If you have a day where there's a lot of new and interesting stuff happening, it will feel longer than a boring day. The same happens with psychedelics, but sometimes A LOT more pronounced. You might then ask yourself: What is the "objective" perception of time then, i.e. the one that is closest to reality? The obvious answer is: There is none (even though you can measure time objectively, of course). It is perception and thus entirely subjective.

I have a deeper explanation for it but few will grasp it. Psychedelic states lengthen the quantum superposition states that the brain naturally uses for doing its thinking. As the states lengthen into full superposition (which allows access to the immanent multiverse in all of its ever-branching complexity) time itself falls away completely. The same thing happens during meditation and subsequent enlightenment. If you are able to hold this constant state of no consciousness the indescribable occurs.
It's a brain function effect and it relates to subjective time. Objective time (what a clock measures) remains constant, but the subjective perception passes beyond clock measurement into infinite reach throughout time and space.
See what I said?

As you get older, time seems to speed up. All old people will tell you that. If your life is a pie, and each year is a slice, then by the time you're 80 a year is like nothing.
When you trip, part of your mind reverts back to childhood when time passed much slower.

Sorry, that's about as simple as it gets. I'm working now on an SF novel that ties this together with mushrooms, psychedelic rock, cutting edge science - and changing history - into a more accessible form. That it's partially just my real life experience is sort of a bonus.
The simple answer though is high doses take you to the same places that meditation takes you, the same places that mystics throughout the ages have gone. What you're able to bring back from there? YMMV. But it's all there for anybody to find.

research suggests that insects precieve time much faster which makes humans and larger mammals appear to move very slow / thats what makes them flies always get away uknow
mushrooms obviously doesnt affect time, things like gravity affects time but its just perception. its more or less chemistry in your brain
Time is interesting topic tho, the fourth dimension , what physisict still cant fully explain what is. I reccommend the series into the wormhole episode of time , can be found on youtube.

strange because I have never once considered time to have "slowed down"
I consider myself to have SPED UP .... CONSIDERABLY!!!!!
but always, from within anywhere of 4-8 hours of accuracy time is pretty much the same.
although I have been sober in situations where I felt time was no longer relevant in any meaningful way // completely lost not on drugs... was weird and precipitated a hospitalization

Why not the reverse, time speeding up?
everyone thinks more and more, more technology all the time
soon we will hit the singularity
all will be one, all information being connected everyone will be the same
you are me, I am we, we are all
peace
technology will make sharing your personal profile seem non-unique, because you are non-unique everyone will see they are not unique, because they know everything about each other then society will change
I think we're already there
"internet is like global ego dissolution" -terence mckenna (think I saw this quote somewhere)
I think he might be right... in the end
if that is right we will all be connected with god again soon(most of humanity), define god yourself (or better yet, don't define)
happy times ahead...
the irony... how technology can get us closer to god .. but it seems so, it can make us remember and create the need to simplify

i read that flies experience time in slow motion, or at least it would appear we are in slow motion, which is why that appear to fast. Maybe reality speeds up for you when you see it.
