What do you mean by fight? During the trip? Or all together?

i made a thread similar to this a few years back. the answer, to me, is basic conservatism....people are comfortable with what they already believe to be true and do not want those assumptions challenged.
psychedelic drugs put us face to face with all of our assumptions and alot of our illusions about life. when the average person is trying to PRESERVE their illusions and assumptions, psychedelic drugs aren't exactly going to help them do that lol.
they're going to shatter that foundation entirely and force them to re-examine everything they believed in. alot of people fear that to a huge degree. and that's why people fight this experience, make it illegal, label it "bad," etc.

because we are used to our consciousness that we percieve 99% of the time. and major shift to that is startling and almost scary at first.nothing more than that

i haven't done them in a year and in fact, even *I*, a previous psychedelic user, am a bit hesitant to dive back in so quickly.
why? because i KNOW they are going to shatter every illusion i have created about myself in the past year of my life. and for the past year of my life that's what i've been TRYING to create....a solid foundation of who i "assume" myself to be in relation to others and how i function within this society. (post-college, new job, new social role etc.)
and at this stage of my life, i can't have that happen lol. the shrooms would show me too much and i need my illusions preserved at this stage of the game, so i can keep playing it. i'm already pretty aware of how phony alot of the roles we play are, so i don't need shrooms to be like "hey dude, you're a fake ass bastard, quit that 9 to 5 job and start writing surrealist poetry for a living" or some shit. just can't afford that revelation at this stage of the game lol

For me and i'd assume most the bad body load, doubled with an overwhelming mind fuck/I got too high for my own comfort level. I am a believer, but that isn't why i've had trouble in trips, just the searing mindfuck and being out of control high, along with a nasty body vibe, gets the better of me at times. When you get that kind of ride it's hard to turn it around for many people. When you hit a super dose/level 5 and you feel you've died/have an out of body experience that's completely out of your control... Obviously everyone can handle that kind of experience.

Tripping confirmed to me that religion is bullshit and I should cast out those who use religion as a tool of control. I can see how people fight the mushroom, it can and will show you the errors of your ego and that would be too much for the weak minded, especially those who cling to their ego for safety and comfort.

I'd say its their own being they are fighting. A mushroom trip can show you things about yourself. Sometimes it shows you things that you don't like. Like someone else said too, sometimes people don't know what they are getting into and it can be quite scary if you aren't prepared and accepting.

Unless I'm misunderstanding the question... for me it's always been about control. Totally giving up ones own control to an external agent is always difficult for me (a reason why I'm uncomfortable with flying), but as time goes on, I'm getting better at letting go.

I used to fight it in the ignorance of my psychedelic experiences.
It was unreal. I felt uncomfortable that I was unable to control what I was seeing/feeling/thinking, and you know shrooms lol...the come up is fast.
I finally thought, "fudge it", and immediately this feeling of warmness and enlightenment consumed me. From then on, I FREAKEN LOVED the psychedelic state.
It changed my life. When I got control again, I became a much better person. Over a year of being a novice tripper, and every day is such a blessing.
