Do you look like a druggie?

Do you look like a druggie? How do you think this affects your life?
Note: the next question is not directed at anybody and is not intended to be insulting or offensive. If what one looks like on the outside doesn't matter (b/c they're an "enlightened," drug-consuming being), then why do so many stoners/druggies/etc. wear the same garb? It's not for function.

Sclorch looks so straight in his '70s polyester suit and short hair, that anyone would know immediately that he must be a druggie!

I've had people tell me they were suprised to learn I used drugs.
I look fairly normal, I think.
People dress the way they want to appear. If the people you think are cool have dreadlocks and beads, then you model yourself after them.
No matter what people will tell you, looks really do matter. It's easy to believe that what's on the inside is most important, but everyone, especially those who claim not to, judge people by their appearance. If you see a person wearing a baggy track suit, oversized gold chains, and a blue bandanna, you make assumptions about them. If you see someone wearing a sublimely tailored suit, well manicured, and carrying a briefcase, you make certain assumptions about them as well.
What opinions you have about them, depends on your own ideas and perceptions.
Would a guy who always dressed in Armani be accepted into the "open minded" hippy group?

everyone at my school was convinced i was a stoner before i even tried cannabis, and before you say anything i wore uniform and dressed smartly. With clothing i think its kind of a chicken - egg type thing. For example goths all being depressed, being depressed leading to the goth lifestyle. Just because some people bs and claim whats on the inside is more important doesnt mean that anyone that says this does not truly believe it, granted looks will always play a role in a our perception of anyone.

Many years ago, a long-haired, bearded "hippie" acquaintence of mine who always dressed sloppily, shaved his beard, got a haircut and donned a suit for Halloween. People kept asking what his costume was as most of his friends did not even recognize him!

in high school I used to hang with the stoner/hippy/psuedo-intellectual crowd and looked the part. but I realized that that wouldn't get me far in life so I cleaned up my image a bit. now I would feel quite at home in a professional environment.

I'm with Oook on this one...I was apparently radiating the whole stoner repertoire before I even so much as had the chance to see a joint. And I really don't think it had anything to do with my outward physical appearance at all...I think most people just have an innate ability to 'scan' other people's personalities (most likely without even realizing it) and 'pick-up on' what type of a person they are without even needing to get to know em first. I mean, I'm sure we've all met at least one person in our lives' that we couldn't stand right from the start without ever having a reason not to like them...or someone who we're imediately drawn to without knowing anything about them first. We might make an assumption about someone on a superficial level the absolute very first time we see them...but the second we recieve that signal, it's like none of those first initial reactions mean anything at all (at least, that's how it's always been for me)
I have to admit though - there are some people out there that seem to have thrown out their personality sensors, or traded em in for a box of twinkies, or something (my birth family being a *perfect* example) but for the most part, I think most people do actually sense something, even if it is just a vague vapor that is quickly overlooked.

I don't look like one but maybe I "act" or "seem" like one at times..

I usually wear a white visor with a blue bud leaf on it wherever i go. Some days i dress like the motherfucking pope, some days i dress like a ninja, other days like im big pimp, some days like im a bum, and most days i dress like myself. but yes. I USE DRUGS, THEREFOR I AM A DRUGGIE, AND I LOOK LIKE ME.
druggies look like everything. most people you may assume use drugs by the way they look probably do. Most people you assume dont use drugs by the way they look probably do. Most people use drugs. Thanks.

its funny cuz I used to work at a head shop and at least half the people that came in to buy glass speed and crack pipes were wearing fancy business suits.
I definitely agree with Tak on this one. Most people use drugs, some are just more open about it than others.
As for me, I try to maintain a "neutral" appearance. I dont want to screw up school grants and job interviews, or get unneccesarily searched by the police, but I also dont want to alienate "cool" people by looking too much like a conformist.
Still, when I dressed like a punk (unnatural hair color, spikes and chains, torn jeans and political Tshirts) I got harrassed by straight people a lot more, but no one ever fucked with me at raves or in the ghetto.
The other day, some plastic hippie bitch called me a "conformist". I just laughed and started singing that brian adams song... you know, the one that goes "Saw a deadhead sticker on a Cadillac..."

Nope, aside from my long hair. Which is always clean and well brushed.
So, probably not.

"Just because some people bs and claim whats on the inside is more important doesnt mean that anyone that says this does not truly believe it, granted looks will always play a role in a our perception of anyone"
That's what I meant. Everyone understands on an intellectual level that it's best to judge people by what's on the inside, but everyone will always judge people by their outside appearance, to some degree.

In my opinion, no. But people always assume that about me. I've been stopped by local police 3 times for various traffic violations and each time was searched, based on my appearance I suppose. I didn't have anything on me so I consented to the search so I wouldn't get a ticket. People at work assume I do drugs, mainly marijuana. It's probably the long hair...

I wore tye dyes and was all hippied out for awhile then I got sick of that. The whole hippy scene really got to me actually. i didn't feel original at all, and I think orginality is not something to be passed up in life.
I had pretty shaggy hair so I got a haircut. Then i started buying nice clothes. It felt good looking "upstanding" for a little while, but then that started to get boring. I don't really know how I like to dress actually. A cool looking t-shirt and nice baggy pants with lots of pockets works for me.
I would actually like to get some black clothes. i have never considered myself a "goth" or into anything goth, but something about that attracts me. maybe it's all the Type-O i've been listening to. or maybe its all the amber crombie shit i've had to look at lately since school started.
I like the idea of dressing to your mood.
Do I look like a druggie? I'm not sure... though I probably walk and talk like one.
