Which allows for more gas exchange? Polyfil or tyvek?

My last batch of innoculations never germinated. I'm not sure why but I think it's because of drying out. I have my lids altered ATM with I believe a 3/8 nice hole stuffed with polyfil. This never cause a problem with grain to grains as I gather because of them colonizing quicker. I don't know if its because of the warmer weather or what but, they look quite dry and that's all I can guess is the reason as my grain prep was the same as always. I'm wondering if maybe I use tyvek for my next round might be better. I have some mycelium on agar I am getting ready to transfer as well as nocc ing some up with syringe again just to see. I'm debating on using tyvek this time, or maybe just stuffing the hole tighter with polyfil.
But regardless, what do you think allows for more ge. Tyvek or poly? And with that, does more ge lead to quicker drying out? I'm just wondering, would gas exchange lead to moisture loss also?

Impossible to answer because it depends on the grade of tyvek and how tight you stuff the polyfill.
However, I can assure you the grains didn't dry out enough to prevent germination unless they sound like a jar of gravel when you shake them. Something else went wrong. RR

Hmm. All poly is the same yes? The first time I purchased poly it was at michaels. The craft store. And it was a tiny pillow size worth for like around 10 bux. The last time I got was huge pillow at a dollar store made of 100% polyester fibers. I assume its the same. Curious as to why someone from this site suggested the more expensive crap if there is no difference between that and any thing else consisting of polyester fibers

I've used poly from cheap pillows and the only problem I had was that the fibers were basically all shredded up, making it difficult to stuff holes extremely tight.

I use tyvek for most of my lids and get first signs of growth within 7 days.
I'd shoot em up again or do a G2G.

I wonder if I'm stuffing them too tight

How come your jar is full of condensation if the myc aint growing? My stalling jars just look like silly jars with bloated rye.
It might be the water droplets inside of your jar, but that looks like yeast to me..

I didn't even notice that. I brought it out into the sun to take the picture. I gather that means they aren't as dry as I expected? In that case the fact they have not germinate yet really has me stumped.
