That's what I was getting at GG... Looks like a cube. It's super out of place growing in the wild in Virgina though. I was talking to one guy and he swares to god he found cubes growing from a manure pile in NJ. Perhaps freak fruitings do happen a lot further north than we think

I'd go as far as saying that is pretty much definately Psilocybe Cubensis.
Sweet findings UncleMike.
Is it cow manure or horse manure? -Describe the field/pasture a little more please

Cow shit but it has been laying in a pile for about 4 months from where we cleaned out stalls that we kept calfs in. Thank you. I am pretty sure it is a cubie too! What strain I wonder. Just Wild? Virginia strain? Also, they calfs we bought came from a North Carolina Stock Market and where they came from before then I have not a clue. Think they could have eat some spores and shit 'em out and they colonized and popped up?

Strains are only relevant to cultivation. It's primarily a marketing gimick(IMHO). While there *are* some subtle differences between strains, it's too much of an arbitrary thing to try to identify the strain. What is all boils down to is that Psilocybe cubensis is still Psilocybe cubensis, no matter where it was found. If the differences were signifigant enough to denote a variation(like Amaniata muscaria var. formosa) then science would denote one, but the differences are so small that science doesn't bother with denoting variations for cubensis that grow in different parts of the world. The "strain" is only important to those who cultivate the mushrooms(ahem, marketing gimick).
If you really wanted to you could culitvate the mushroom and sell the prints as the "VA Uber Cold Loving Strain."

I'd be willing to bet someone planted that there or planted some shit that came from FL or a spot where Cubes grow. There's no way a wild Cube is going to be growing naturally in the wild in Virginia. Sorry I just don't believe it.
