hey all my friend was wondering how bad contaminations really are.... for example in the substrate, and/or on the actual fruit itself... if comsumed what are the possible effects, and if lets say one part of a cake has blue/green on it, but the other side has healthy fruits, woudl it be ok to eat it..? please let meknow inCreD

As I understand if you were to eat a contam shroom, you would be very ill indeed, and may even die. If you get a contam on half the cake or even just a bit of the cake, the whole cake could still be effected. So you should just throw it away. It is better to be safe than dead.

That't true. There are some molds which can kill you, others can make you very ill and others have no effect. That's why it's very important to id the contamination and see if it can be treated or not. Read the contamination faq and follow the links for more understanding.

I'd have to agree, any type of mold or contam is bad. Death is something that can't be reversed.

so what the question really is is, if there are no signs of contaminations of the substrate during the whole development cycle, and the fruits grow well and healthy, there should be no probs with ingesting them ...? let mon ami know pleeze. thanks inCreD

yes, but if there is contams on the cake, even if it has healthy looking fruits, it may have absorbed the toxins of the mold. any cake with contamination should be tossed immediately

Think of them as rotten food in your fridge. Something like a sandwhich made out of moldy bread, with meat that had been left out over night, and a nice glass of sour milk to wash it down. Contaminated mushrooms are very similiar.
